    Upcoming Changes

To be added Next week or a following week:

    General Changes

    • Displaying the hotkey button on the fast travel pop-up on the Dig site Map.
    • Adding an Archaeology material interface similar to the Invention one that you can look at.
      • This would display your materials in your storage/inventory and update in real time.
    • Add better descriptions/messages on your toolbelt for how things are upgraded or what they do.
    • Adding a grace period to the music track which requires 105 Archaeology to complete. (Oversight)
    • Settings interface options:
      • Toggle duplicate Imcando pieces
      • Displaying the hitsplat for precision.

    Ancient Summoning

    • Ripper demon needs changes (we will share details when we have them), however it will remain the best familiar.

    Artefacts

    • The level 94 artefact, 'Nosorog!' sculpture, requiring a level 98 material, Soapstone, was an oversight.
      • Soapstone will be replaced with Warforged bronze.
    • Allow players to put a Pontifex signet ring & Legatus pendant to their toolbelt.

    Invention

    • Allow the Auto-screener to be checked without disrupting skilling/movement.
    • Allow the Auto-screener to be activated/deactivated.
    • Allow Imp soul perk to send resources to the material bank/metal bank alongside a message clarifying that.

    Material Cache

    • At least 3 nodes at every excavation site across the world and 2 nodes within a dig site.
      • We will see what this does before doing any more changes.

    Relics

    • The Dharock's effect relic currently takes priority over the outfit despite the outfit being better.
      • The outfit will take priority after a change planned for next week.

    Being Looked into

    • Adding Chronotes to the currency interface.
      • Currently we can't add tradeable currencies to it due to a technical issue.
      • Bonds and MTX currencies are implemented differently.
    • Archaeology Journal can't be viewed while skilling due to a technical reason around the type of interface it uses.
      • Could discuss allowing books in general to be read while running around.
    • The Inquisitor Staff has a few issues which is being investigated.
      • AA & Bleeds don't scale in damage, there is no current fix but we are investigating.
      • Don't expect a fix for a week or 2.

    Other

    • ARG (Alternate Reality Game) was intended but due to time constraints we couldn't finish it.
      • We'd like to revisit it in the future.
    • No plans to have a leaderboard for tetracompass completions.
      • We could transition the stat for restorations to completion since they are similar if we were to do this.
    • No plans for an artefact pouch/bank.
    • Armadyl being missing isn't a bug, he reappears after you complete Sliske's Endgame.
      • There was an issue a long time ago which reset player's progress on the quest, this means those players affected will need to re-complete it to see Armadyl.

    Design and Information

    Ancient Invention

    • Kinetic Dynamo - Removed due to tech limitations since we couldn't get them to work properly.
    • We are welcome to include other ideas that didn't make it in the future.

    Excavation

Precision - Speeds up your discovery progress (blue bar) which provides an artefact.

    • This is mostly noticeable if you use a mattock on an excavation of a lower tier.
    • Does NOT affect material caches.

Focus - Provides a higher success chance of finding materials.

    • Your archaeology level provides a passive increase to your success chance as well.
    • Archaeology levels provide a passive increase to your success chance when finding materials.
      • Doesn't affect precision, only focus.

    Other

    • Soil is unrelated and is just random.
    • Displaying excavation stat values, no currently maybe longterm.
    • Objects needed in certain mysteries are guaranteed at a certain level.
      • Example: The boots in Stormguard are guaranteed at 76.

    Inquisitor Staff Pieces

    • During the Pylon event you have a chance of receiving a piece anywhere within the fortress (not outside).
      • Excavation spot does not matter.
      • Luck rings/relics increase chance slightly.
    • Archaeology level affects it indirectly due to its increase to your success chance while excavating.
      • This technically means certain consumables may impact the chance as well.

    Lore

    • Warforge's exclamation point isn't canonical, it just sells the idea of the dig site.
      • It wasn't included in dialogue as we'd get bug reports over it.

    Material Caches

    • The skill is designed to have deficit in material.
    • You are encouraged to purchase them or spend more time obtaining them.

    Mattocks

    • Imcando mattock is essentially a T90 mattock but requires a level 80.
      • Since it's a goal for people reaching it it's put at level 80.
    • Imcando piece chance increases for every level above 76 and flattens out at a certain level.

    • Artefact discovery mitigation:

      • We track the last few artefacts you discovered. Each one has a weighting and as you discover it we reduce the weighting so you are more likely to get something different.
      • Sometimes you need more of a certain artefact, this is handled by providing artefacts from special research.
    • Dragon mattock drop rate will probably be revealed after 1 month after release.

    Mysteries

    • The Infernal Source overhead prayer requirement will not be changed to account for pures.
      • They are kept in mind but we don't change/adjust content just so they can participate.
      • We did discuss other ways for an overhead prayer but didn't come to a solution.
      • These players can still meet the mystery requirements needed for qualifications.
    • In the future if we add mysteries we will keep in mind who are able to obtain the first broadcast.
      • This time around was a learning experience.

    Relics/Monolith

    • As you acquire qualifications provides a research and when you complete them your power increases.
    • Relics don't stack with existing effects (You don't get double luck with both a relic/ring active).
      • In the case of Luck relics, the highest tier takes priority and then the relic.

    XP Rates/Race

    • Players are getting XP at the rates we expected.
    • XP rates are overall good, however the 50-60 range may have been messed up due to the level gaps.
      • Depending on your training method you may not feel this grind.
    • The skill doesn't feel grindy compared to other gathering skills.
    • Ironman/HCIM first 99s/120s/200M will be added to the tracking list. The interface in-game will also be updated.

    Archaeology - A gigantic post

    Research | Mysteries

Note: This post was meant to combine a training guide plus mysteries and research, however it will hit reddit's character limit. So this post will contain a training guide, then I'll reply with comments below with a mysteries guide and research.

So prepare yourself for a hell of a read, huge credit to Saint Cannon for this writeup and 0000000000.1% credit to me for formatting for reddit.

    Hello everyone!

With the new release of Archaeology, myself, Saint Cannon, Gaga Lady, Friendliness, Son, Suity, and Im Rubic created the Archaeology discord server.

It has been a very exciting project working on mysteries guides, fleshing out methods on obtaining items, collaborating with the community on the Pylon, deposit box callouts, and so much more! It has been amazing to see the camaraderie and willingness to share information to help others even with the race.

Additionally, it has been a humbling experience working alongside some of the pillars of the RS community. The Wiki team has been fantastic in helping us get things posted to the wiki for everyone to benefit from. I also want to thank all our Contributors and Staff on the Archaeology Discord. They have been fantastic in every aspect! Lastly, I want to thank Son, Guys, ChangingLane, Merds, and PinkRoses for helping with details.

So why this document? I have seen so many questions about 'What do I do at this level? Where should I go? When should I do this mystery?' The objective is to clarify things, give a sense of direction, and reduce overall frustrations! I will be breaking it down level-by-level on what you should be doing and when you should move on. I recognize this is likely not the most XP-efficient way of going about things, but it is a great foundation to build from. I hope you enjoy this and find it useful. If there are any comments to be made or any corrections you see, leave a reply here!

Once you have excavated an Ikovian gerege, restore it at the table next to you. You will want to add it to your toolbelt, ascend into the citadel, and continue excavating the Ikovian memorial piles. While excavating the piles, you will randomly receive an 'Exile's Vow' page.

Speak to Gee'ka once you obtain it to finish the mystery 'Atonement'. Additionally, while excavating the piles inside the citadel you will randomly get the 'Boots of Flight'. With the boots, speak with Gee'ka, return to the citadel, and traverse the two agility gaps to complete the mystery 'Leap of Faith'. Take this chance to go inside the house on the first island after traversing and grab the broken Wingsuit on the floor. You will be able to fix it at level 76, which will then be used for completion of the "Wings Out" mystery.

You will be unable to finish the mystery until level 105, so just leave an extra one in your bank. For the time being, you will put Zanik on hold and return to the Stormguard Citadel. Once you are at the Stormguard Citadel, first recover and repair the Wingsuit if you haven't yet. Upgrade it twice to obtain 'Wingsuit v3' and fly through the electric barriers to complete the 'Wing Out' mystery. A map of all the locations will be at the end of the document. After finishing 'The Spy Who Loved Metal', 'Wing Out', and the collection for the Keshik ger pile, head to the Warforge!. To address why you want to start with the Stormguard Citadel vs. Warforge! boils down to Imcando metal pieces and resources. Though the rate of obtaining the Imcando metal pieces has increased, it is still best to dedicate most of this leveling block to obtaining the pieces. Additionally, the material resources are much more expensive than other places. By excavating the piles for a longer duration of time, you will gain more of the resources passively while uncovering artefacts. At any rate, once you are at Warforge! speak with Zanik to begin a cutscene. After the cutscene, head to the Gladiatorial goblin remains. While excavating, you may randomly receive journal pages for 'The First Commander' mystery. Collect five journal pages and turn them in to Zanik to complete the mystery.

Once that collection is finished, hop around from dig site to dig site until all the collections are finished. If you finish all the collections before level 83, return to Warforge! if you haven't gotten all four Imcando metal pieces yet.

    Crucible stands debris (Warforge!):

    • Ork cleaver sword: General Bentnoze and Varrock Museum
    • Ogre kyzaj axe: General Bentnoze and Varrock Museum

While in the Tunnels area, you can begin the 'Into the Forge' mystery. When complete, it will allow you to unlock the ability to make an Imcando mattock. After completing the two mysteries, head to the Goblin dorm debris and excavate the pile.

    • Fishing Trident: Sir Atcha, Varrock Museum, and Chief Tess

    Level 85 (Stormguard Citadel)

At level 85, return to the Stormguard Citadel and excavate the Weapons research debris piles. While excavating the piles you may come across journal pages for the 'A Study in Aether' mystery. Once you have recovered all five journal pages, speak with Gee'ka to turn in the mystery. You can finish this mystery at any point as every excavation site beyond this one awards these pages, however, it is recommended that you finish it before going beyond the level 91 spot, as you can fully complete the Stormguard mysteries by 95, giving you a new researcher to add to your missions.

    Weapons research debris piles:

    • Hawkeye lens multi-vision scope: Lowse and Varrock Museum
    • Talon-3 razor wing: Lowse and Varrock Museum

    Level 86 – 89 (Kharid-et)

    Orcus altar:

    • Exsanguinate Spell scroll: Soran, Varrock Museum, Wise Old Man, and 'The Vault of Shadows' mystery
    • Necromantic focus: Soran, Varrock Museum, and Wise Old Man

Level 89 – 91 (Infernal Source and Warforge!)

At level 89, head to the Infernal Source first and excavate the Dis overspill piles until you finish your collections.

    Dis overspill:

    • Pandemonium tapestry: Isaura, Varrock Museum, and Art Critic Jacques
    • Torment metal sculpture: Isaura and Varrock Museum

After finishing the collections, head to the Warforge! dig site and excavate the Big high war god shrine piles. While excavating the piles, you may come across a journal page for 'Forge War!' mystery. Speak with Zanik once you have recovered the one journal page to finish the mystery.

    Big high war god shrine:

    • High priest crozier: General Wartface, Varrock Museum, and Chief Tess
    • High priest mitre: General Wartface, Varrock Museum, and 2x for Wise Old Man
    • High priest orb: General Wartface, Varrock Museum, and Chief Tess

    Level 91 (Stormguard Citadel)

At level 91, return to the Stormguard Citadel and excavate the Gravitron research debris. It is strongly recommended to finish getting the pages for 'The Spy Who Loved Metal' so you can finish the Stormguard mysteries by 95.

    Gravitron research debris:

    • Prototype gravimeter: Lowse and Varrock Museum
    • Songbird recorder: Lowse, Varrock Museum, and Wise Old Man

    No One: Easter Event:

While everyone's complaining about the Event, I figured I'd share a bit of it that made me happy.

I died right as I got 99 constitution.

Please Jagex, don't allow coils on digsites. They have no use.

Archaeology should be locked behind quest points. Change my mind

Easter eggs take priority over portables - I can't skill on w84

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:57 AM PDT

The Combat Academy (or whatever the name is now) is a very crowded place on w84 in a single square, a lot of eggs spawn constantly, whenever they spawn on top of a portable (i.e: range) here's what happens:

You can't click the range anymore

You can't right click it either because you're met with this

Think clicking the eggs will save you? Think again!

Only options are to either wait til the eggs despawn (just for them to spawn right away anyway) or re-angle your camera constantly as they spawn, both of which make an otherwise afk activity annoying.

Lost hardcore life when teleporting out of practice mode vindicta!?!?!

Lost hardcore life when teleporting out of practice mode vindicta!?!?!

So as the title says... I went to test out Vindicta and used the practice mode option. I teleported away instead of letting it kill me - which would have spawned me behind his portal.

But after teleporting away from the PRACTICE MODE I got damaged randomly and I died and lost one of my lives.

This is not normal and it completely messed up my mood. I lost all my items in practice mode vindy and i lost my life.... Over 2300 total without 0 lives lost and then something like this?

Is it possible to get it back or is it supposed to be this way?

I teleported with the arch journal that was in my pocket slot because i was training arch before.

Edit: To clarify, I teleported out because I saw that my research (as seen from the picture below) team came back and I wanted to send them onto another trip.

the new easter event flat out sucks

its yet another skill and gather tokens to cash in for rewards and this time they dont even auto collect.

cant jagex just make a simple miniquest for a holiday event anymore instead of just making these gather 10k tokens for a reward events, the players are sick of it

    any1 else agree?

Tarddiad would make an excellent digsite later on

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 08:47 AM PDT

It would feature Seren, who is noticeably absent from the Archaeology lore thus far. It's also suitably ancient, happening in pre-godwars times. There's lots of interesting lore and mysteries that could have developed among the Cywir elves amid the collapse of their civilzation.

And maybe you could uncover an upgrade for crystal armor that makes it finally useful, lol

What other places do y'all think would make good digsites?

The Ancient Legionaries look incredible - so can we get their armour as a cosmetic override? Maybe from the guild's reward shop?

I do not want to grab 3 little eggs for some title, I just wana go through archeology in peace, and when i look at screen at a message, I wana be hyped by an artifact, tome or compass piece, not 3 eggs.

    Thanks

Will material caches be improved? Jagex not answering

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:08 AM PDT

    I just watched the stream and many questions were answered, though one of the most commonly asked questions was not answered;

    Will caches be improved?

Material caches right now are a nightmare to use. Unless you're someone pumping millions into the skill, you're required to stop excavating and head to material caches to complete your items. I'm fine with that - I actually like it.

The problem is that we've gone back in time and made it competitive. If there's less than 3 caches, you'll likely be stood waiting for respawn. If there are two or more people there, you'll be waiting much longer as the caches run out extremely quickly.

Personally I'd like to see caches either modified to ensure always one cache is active at any given time, or that they are based on individual players rather than the collective group mining them or even changed to work like how ores operate.

Could we get a response on if there are improvements being made? As it stands, it's the most frustrating part of this otherwise wonderfully developed skill.

    Thanks!

It's an holiday (Easter) event, why can't we unlock emotes?

I've been out of the game for a few years and came back recently, i missed out a few years of events and now that they are back in season everyone wants to do them, sadly they cant be unlocked for some reason.

Years ago it was a normal thing to be able to unlock previous holiday events emotes if you missed them, why can't we unlock them again?, this is pretty sad and discouraging for something that was fun to do and express emotes something

Please make them unlockable once you done the holiday events, this is pretty stupid for them to be locked

Can we not have a million fucking clickable eggs on the ground at every digsite?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:48 PM PDT

Immersion breaking (not that really matters with people dressed as chickens and snowmen) but seriously, you make all these graphically beautiful new areas and ruin it with a bunch of pastel eggs and imps, & annoying explosion sound as they appear.

Why didn't they just make it auto collect like every other event?

Weekly reminder for Jagex to make Anachronia totem effects permanent.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 06:54 PM PDT

Please...there's no point in spending 15 minutes a week running around activating my totems. If a permanent slayer helm boost for the Slayer Lodge isn't deemed too OP then there's no reason not to have a permanent totem or intimidation effect on my account, especially after going 700 dinosaur kills dry on the totem base.
