I downloaded it when it got on steam just to try it out and the amount of experienced players giving out items and helping all the newbies like me is tremendous. I've never felt more welcomed to a game before and I'm extremely grateful everyone has been so patient and nice. With these times being very stressful is nice to see people come together and share their love for the game. Looks like I'll be sticking around longer than I thought thanks to yall :D see you around in my adventures.

    Can't Login Through Steam

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 03:04 PM PDT

I only played this generation of RS when there were beta test servers for EoC, so decided to give it another shot now that it's on Steam.

Unfortunately, I'm getting an error that hasn't fixed itself in days, and have literally nothing to go off of.

I launch the game as normal, however see no username when what it says I'm logging in as. I hit the "Login" button and just keep getting told I've sent too many login attempts.

I've tried logged in and out of Steam, restarted my PC, switched networks, and nothing has corrected this.

    Any ideas?

    Hi! New player, first thoughts

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 01:01 PM PDT

I'm not sure if i'm technically a Returning player? I played RuneScape back in 2008 with some classmates at 9 years old; however i spent maybe a week at most just walking around doing nothing, and i have no memory of it.

I've only played since i saw the game on Steam on Tuesday night and figured i'd voice what i think about the game, i also tried Runescape 2007 which seemed more familiar to me to see the differences. At the time of posting this, i have completed almost all free to player quests.

    Initial expectation:

I've seen memes of this game on different websites including 9gag, i remember vaguely something, but it's not enough to make an assumption or idea.

    The game itself:

I don't have a gaming computer, but a work/desktop computer and i like that the game is running decently on it, the game is very fun but also very overwhelming.

But i think that's part of the charm because there's no path or main quest line i could follow, i basically just appeared and i didn't know what to do or where to go. Luckily one of my uncles has been playing for years and told me to try quests and just exploring.

    The interface:

I like it, but i feel like it uncooperative at times, I have a Mac that i tried it on as well and when i logged on there it kept breaking down. Also i spent a long time changing my interface appearance around and when i went on my mac the interface moved around, Can you save interfaces or somehow make them stick?

When i logged back on my PC it changed again. that's very frustrating. The interface is very hard to navigate

    Quests:

This is very cool, i've never seen any game where there's this kind of detail to quests. I've played countless RPG games on the xbox and i've tried World of Warcraft but nothing compares to this! so good job runescape lol

    Skills:

As i understand it i can't train some skills over level 5 because my account is not a member account, but i could train all skills to level 5 at least.

I like that there's such diverse skills, but i don't like how repetitive they become. And i guess that's what i didn't like back in 2008? if it was anything like that.

It also takes so long to train skills to progress, maybe that changes in the later levels, but i googled it and it says you need millions of experience to get to the later levels? How long does it take to get to the high levels? I saw some Boss monsters through advertisements, the goal is to get to that point!

Also, my favorite skill has to be Dungeonering, it is the only skill that hasnt felt repetitive so far

    Combat and Wiki:

I've been looking this up the most, the runescape wiki has been so helpful for looking up things, also i was told to use /wiki in the chat, does that mean that the runescape makers owns the Wiki? I love that i can look things up however i want, but i wish it was more incorporated into Steam or the interface so it wouldn't open a new page. That's very distracting and sucks for my computer.

I haven´t done much combat, but i like it and i like that there is different combat systems, but it's so hard to enable them.

And dragging out abilities to change those ability bars was very annoying.

I looked up some things and apparently there are goblin bosses i had access to, but it was hard to figure out what i should do so i just left it alone

    The Community:

It's very cool that this game is so old, and it's nothing like what i remember of it. Back in highschool i remember people made fun of it because it was so trivial, They said something along the lines of "you play Runescape to cut wood" lol.

I have watched some videos of it while skilling and i like that it has guides and people are discussing it so it's going well.

I met some people as i logged in that helped me figure out how to send private messages and join chats, which is very cool but it shouldn't be needed. I feel like the interface is too hard to figure out and the settings are crazy... There should be Basic settings and advanced settings, but everything is in itself.

Also, people are very cool! just being able to chat openly makes this game amazing. I haven't played any game where you chat like this and i'm here for it. Just wish it had voice calling, but i guess there's always Discord.

    Microtransactions:

When i googled this game, so much appeared about Microtransactions. I have only been logging in for 3 days in a row so i haven't really thought about it or seen much yet so i don't think i can comment on it yet. But i heard that you can buy EXP which isn't nice but i haven't noticed it yet.

    Pros:

    *Vibrant community
    *Many experienced high level players
    *a lot of content
    *Updates aren't seasonal
    *Many bosses
    *Quests are amazing
    *Many skills
    *Cool combat system
*You can pay for membership with coins
*Cool that you can customise interface
*This game exists for mobile, Mac and PC
    *Very cool graphics overall
    *cool that worlds are themed

    Cons:

    *Interface is bulky
*Takes so long to level it, you need time to progress.
*So hard to know what to do, no pathing system
*Expensive game, i have like 55K gold in my money bag
    *Game Settings are messy
    *Not very noob friendly!
*The graphics are cool at times, but the player face is outdated
*I can't log in at 2007 runescape and Runescape 3 at the same time
    *Microtransactions there are so many
*I have to use my mouse to do everything, not very modern

It's very easy to see that this game has been aimed at the upper level people lately by just visiting the runescape website, i hope lower levels gets some love too! As most recent updates on the website i can't try it, but i guess it gives me purpose for the future.

Also, the customisations for face and hair are very meager, the face itself looks very lifeless, but i love that they have dedicated areas for haircuts and recently i saw you can change clothes too. and there are pets too!

As it is, i want to try Bosses but every guide i've seen has been directed towards people with level 80 and above with various other skills and gear that would take months to attain.

There should be lower level bosses that show off cool abilities without high level requirements. I guess that's part of why i've enjoyed quests so much.

What i like about other RPGs that i'm missing here is chatting with random characters (Like the city guards in Skyrim) and they tell me random things that can be helpful in my gameplay.

I hope this was easy to read, i've been writing small notes on the side as i've been playing as my Uncle wanted to know if i like it lol.

    Reflect Damage Build

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 09:23 AM PDT

So once upon a time I entertained the idea of spamming as many reflect damage based items onto one character as I could, and now, with the release of the Essence of Finality, Vesta's Spear can also be used in the mix.

The following build is the theoretical one for use:

    Armor/Weapons/Accessories

    • Linza Set (helm, body, legs, shield, weapon MH) (reflect dmg of 500 to 800 at a 1/8 chance, independent of any damage values taken)

    • Laceration Boots (Bladed Dive)

    • Deathtouch Bracelet (25 to 50% reflect dmg up to 5,000 at a 1/5 chance) OR Cinderbane Gloves (poison, enhance and multi-proc hits)

    • Essence of Finality (Vesta's Spear spec for 50% reflect dmg)

    • Ring of Recoil (really not that useful/potent, other rings will probably still be used such as Asylum Surgeon Ring, since Adrenaline may be a bit starved). Other ring option may be Leviathan Ring to reduce any damage type.

    • Armor Spikes Alloy (2x dmg when using shield = 198 reflect dmg, 10% chance to deal 1,980 reflect dmg)

    • Reflecting Blood Essence (passive = 5% reflected damage, up to 250 dmg OR activated eff to reflect 50% of next hit up to 2,500 dmg with 1min cooldown)

    Misc Reflect Damage Sources

    • Deflect Prayers

    • Reflect Ability

    • Reprisal Ability (not strictly a reflect, but it's par for the course)

    • Vengeance spell

    • Ancestor Spirits Aura - 1/20 chance when damaged that a spirit will deal up to 2500% of your prayer level as damage to the target that injured you. This is independent of how much damage you actually take.

    PERKS

    • Weapon Perk: Precise 6 + Invigorating 1 OR Precise 6 + Aftershock 1

    • Shield Perk: Lucky 6 + Venomblood --- Lucky does not work in PvP --- Vencomblood because poison damage cannot be reflected

    • Body: Cracking 4 + Ruthless 5 AND Devoted 4 + Impatient 4

    • Legs: Enhanced Devoted AND Absorbative 3 + Crystal Shield 4 (store damage you are taking for extra HP pool to continue reflecting damage while taking less actual damage) + Mobile (break bindings with Greater Barge)

    Additional Thoughts

The idea is that there are many reflect damage sources that will deal damage in static amounts, independent of how much damage is taken/reduced by your perks and abilities.

    • Linza's set effect will deal 500 to 800 reflect damage at a 1/8 chance regardless of how much damage is taken.

    • Armor Spikes Alloy will deal 198 damage regardless if attacks miss or hit, with a 1/10 chance to deal 1,980 damage with a shield on. Enemies must be within melee range, however. This is partially why I would combine Barge with the Mobile perk so bindings can be broken often.

    • Ancestor Spirit Aura - 1/20 chance to deal 2500% your Prayer level to any target that deals damage to you (approx 2,500 damage max, some damage modifiers affect this damage however).

Still reduce damage taken when possible, out-resource the targets, and turn their damage against them. You don't want the Crystal Shield perk on your shield because you want the option to swap to other weapons as needed (given the Linza set effect will not activate during the period of time where the weapon and/or shield are swapped).

The idea of using the Shield Dome spell also comes to mind, since reflecting damage doesn't require your character to attack, and damage while using a shield is typically mediocre as-is. Damage will be reduced while channeling the spell by 50% with diminishing returns on subsequent casts within 2 minutes, but that's no issue for you.

Berserk ability will be even more beneficial to use since taking more damage will also reflect more damage, and the mediocre damage dealt could be balanced by Berserk. Still not the greatest use of Adrenaline for this build, so use only if in excess.

Still debating perks a bit, such as using Shield Bash for a boosted Debilitate, but I figured these combinations would best suit this niche right now.

If there's anything I have missed, let me know!

EDIT Formatting and added additional considerations, including Ancestor Spirit Aura.

Transmuting broken Archaeology artifacts into others from the same excavation site

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 08:31 AM PDT

I've seen suggestions to let us trade broken artifacts for others from the same site, but that makes things a little too easy IMO. I think it'd be better if we could take several broken artifacts, along with some energy, and transmute them into ones we actually need. Make the energy cost scale with your Divination level, much like transmutation currently does.

Maybe you want to turn two level 45 artifacts into another from the same excavation spot; itll cost a small amount of similar-level energy and require a similar Divination level. Want to turn your unwanted level 45 artifacts into level 92 artifacts from the same alignment? That'll cost you 7-8 artifacts and a large amount of energy, and possibly some archaeology materials associated with the artifacts as well.

I don't know how the balancing would work, I haven't thought that far into it, but make it so it's not profitable and is simply a way to do SOMETHING with broken artifacts besides destroying them, or restoring them when you have no use for them in sets and won't get your material cost back in chronotes. This would be nice for players at higher levels who get a lot of useless artifacts from tetras, as I know I do.

An alternative would be reworking the "Fixate" spell and allowing us to somehow trade these broken artifacts in for more uses of Fixate. That doesn't benefit as many players, though, or make Divination more useful.

Either way, I want them to have a purpose. As I'm digging my way toward 200M, I find myself with an extra 12 Ancient Globes and 7 Praetorian Robes that I'd really like to do something with, but I can't seem to balance out my artifacts even with the Fixate spell. Something like this would really help.

Reminder: Remember to Review RuneScape on Steam & Google

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 05:06 AM PDT

If you have a Steam account, even if you don't care to play through Steam, give the game a review when you have the chance. So far only 2,550 players have reviewed the game. This goes for the Google playstore and eventually the Apple App Store as well. Your feedback isn't just for Jagex, but also for new players that might be interested in the game. It's an important factor for the growth of the game as it's being introduced to new platforms.
