Better bad luck mitigation is needed on trio artefact excavations...

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:59 AM PDT

From what I understand, if you receive a certain artefact you have a better chance of receiving the other/one of the other artefacts next time you receive one. Whilst this works well with excavations that are 50:50 between two artefacts, those with three are still massively hinged on RNG.

I decided to revisit the T76 excavations in the Warforge to obtain more Tetracompass pieces - my luck here was already atrocious, going 34/37/6 on Blinder/Ball/Tether. After another dozen artefacts, I'm 6/5/1. For the love of everything holy, I just want some Tethers. Please.

Solution: first, when you proc an artefact your bank/inventory is scanned for the amount you have and the one you receive is weighted towards your lowest number of one, which is weighted more heavily if you still don't roll it.

Let's try to nip those annoying "no update today???" posts in the bud.

There is a bank holiday today in the UK, so the usual weekly update will come tomorrow. That is all.

I recently started a new YouTube channel where I can share RuneScape content with the masses. I'm not a high level player so I feel like I'll be filling the gap as all the other YouTubers are maxxed out in every skill and while that is a goal of mine, I just want to create content that promotes the game and brings in new players.

Not hating on the big YouTubers in the community it was infact Protoxx that inspired me to create content for the game.

My reasoning is if there are more creators that are at an average level and I can create content showing what the game has to offer as of 2020 then it can only be a good thing.

Anyway, it may not work out and I may end up quitting after 3 weeks, but I'd like to make a go of it.

Check out the channel and I look forward to sharing my experiences with the community!

Every time I type in the price box, quantity box, or search bar in the GE, it resets and kicks me out of the text box and I have to retype what I was changing 2 or 3 times. What gives?

Returning player, so sorry if this is a known thing, but can't find anyone talking about it.

*Edit: A solution for anyone that is unaware like I was, which a couple people let me know in the comments, is to simply update either the quantity or price of the item when buying by clicking any of the buttons (+1, +10, +100 / +5%, -5% etc) before attempting to type in the boxes.

Suggestion: Weather the Storm - New Agility Course!

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:54 AM PDT

    Introduction

Weather the Storm is new agility course located in Stormguard Citadel. As you all know Armadyleans used artificial Storms and Clouds to protect Stormguard Citadel from prying eyes, but these storms weren't just means to hide the Citadel, they were also crucial to creation of Stormguard Steel and Aetherium.

Secrets of Stormguard Steel and Aetherium were long lost, but all that changed when an aspiring Archaeologist stumbled upon curious machine on one of the many flying islands in Stormguard Citadel.

Weather the Storm is high-effort agility course where the main goal isn't training agility, instead it's creation of extremely rare and valueable materials. Did I mention that you're flying the entire time?

    Entry requirements

    • 70 Agility
    • 70 Smithing
    • Wingsuit v2 (76 Archaeology, 40 Smithing)

    Silence before the Storm

At first, player must arrive on one of the islands in Stormguard Citadel. There's a machine that has to be restored using Archaeology materials. Once restored, this machine can be used to start the agility course. To start, player needs to insert resources into the machine. There are several tiers of this Agility course. More advanced techniques require larger, more powerful storms and thus have higher requirements.

    • Charging Steel (70 Agility, 70 Smithing). This is the most basic thing you can do during the this activity. It requires standard Steel Bars, Air Runes and Water Runes and yields Charged Bars (see Rewards)
    • Melding Quintessence (75 Agility, 70 Runecrafting). Storm's power is required to create the fifth element, and for this activity you'll need either small quantity of combination runes or large quantity of elemental runes. For example you need either 10 Mist + 10 Lava runes or 1000 of each Air, Earth, Water and Fire runes. This activity yields Drop of Quintessence (see Rewards)
    • Siphoning the Storm (80 Agility, 80 Divination, Ancient Invention unlocked). By combining your knowledge of Invention with Armadylean Machine, you're able to utilize Storm's energy as fuel for your machines and devices. This activity requires Empty Flasks and yields Bottled Lightning (See Rewards)

Once you fill the machine with required items it will start to conjure the storm and the Agility "Course" begins.

    Into the Storm

Player appears in instanced area within the storm. The goal is to fully charge the machine (Charge Bar on top of the screen) before the storm dissipates.

This is done by raising and maintaining 3 Lightning Rods around the area, Machine charges only when all three Lightning Rods are in functional state.Lightning occasionally hit rods, causing them to degrade slightly. They can also be broken by strong wind. Player can repair and reinforce them, but doing so while Lightning hits into the rod stuns the player for a while.

There are multiple hazards such as Ball Lightning that has to be avoided, randomly flying Blueprint Pages that can be caught for few pieces of Blue prints (but doing so takes time), Killerwatts that chase the player (no, Insulated Boots won't cut it here)

Once the machine fully charges (or storm dissipates) player lands and gets reward for all this hard work.

    Rewards

    • Agility XP based on charges you gained. There's also extra bonus if you manage to fully charge the machine
    • Primary Rewards (depending on which technique you chose)
      • Charging Steel -> Charged Bar. Used to craft/repair new Lightning-based Shield called "Thunderfury". This would be t85 hybrid shield with very unique ability - blocking attack with Resonance won't heal you, instead it will conjure Lightning Bolt that hits the opponent for the same amount of health as you would take/restore. It would also work for attacks that can't heal you (with capped damage).
      • Melding Quintessence -> Drop of Quintessence. Can be used as untradeable alternative for Vis Wax and also used to create new (and some of old) Auras
      • Siphoning the Storm -> Bottled Lightning. This can be used as fuel for the generator in Invention Guild, providing alternative to Divine Charges. Also can be used for new Killetwatt summoning familiar.
    • Secondary rewards
      • You can find sentient storm cloud and keep him as pet. His mood and visual appearance would change over time, varying between Happy (Fluffy & White), Sad (Rainy & Gray), Angry ( Thunderous & Dark). This pet would act as legendary pet for all intents and purposes. Chance for this pet to appear would be increased if you sacrifice Charged Bars before starting the activity
      • You can find Howl's Blueprint Fragments flying around
      • Charged Bars can be used together with Quintessence to create Lightspeed Relic. Activating this relic @ Monolith would make you able to use Bladed Dive without weapon(s) and your movement abilities would always have cooldown as if you had "Mobile" perk on your weapon.

Dragon mattocks: Report your drop rates.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 10:34 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where people can comment on the number BGH hunts they have done, and number of dragon mattocks they have received. With that information I'll report a 95% confidence interval for the dragon mattocks drop rate. To attempt to lessen selection bias, please only comment your drop rates if you have done at least 300 hunts. My number crunching will not include anything with a sample size less than 300.

    To start us off, I pulled 3 large drop rates from reddit posts/comments already. 14/1600 here, 10/1400 here, 22/1650 here and 2/400, 5/364, 4/450, 3/412, 6/450, 2/320, 1/322, 1/304, 6/430, 2/426, 0/600, 2/314, 2/390, 10/1800, 1/397, 10/787, 2/306, 3/389, 2/320, 8/486, 6/402, 2/316, 18/1800, 9/590, 15/724 from comments in this thread.

From the data so far we have 170 mattocks in 18,465 kills for a drop rate of 1/108.6

The 95% confidence interval for the drop rate is between 1/93.5 and 1/126.1

Please report your, # of Big game hunts post-archaeology, and # of mattocks received

If you remember also share if your mattocks came from t1 t2 or t3 dinos, what proportion of t1 t2 and t3 dinos you were hunting, and if you had any doubled or trippled mattocks.
