Week 1 - Pre-Release Teasers | Chart tracking event time frequency | Archaeology Discord

    Intro

With last week's update there have been various NPC interactions taking place at the Varrock Dig site. Each interaction can last up to 2 minutes and repeats about 1 minute later. Once a new interaction starts the previous stops. There currently is no pattern as to when the next one will occur, but I'll keep everything updated when they do.

These events reveal various bits of lore leading up to Archaeology and could lead to the Digsite changing in apperance.

    Teaser #20

    Location: HQ Building

Note: The NPCs moved before the top of the hour.

Associate Reiniger: We're really starting to get popular. Associate Reiniger: This whole guild thing is looking more like a reality. Associate Reiniger: It's the lure of history. It's inescapable. Guildmaster Tony: That and the increased funding. That helps. Associate Reiniger: True, people do generally like getting paid. Associate Reiniger: But mostly the history. Guildmaster Tony: : Oh yes, quite. Associate Reiniger: But look at them, do we really need that many just for here? Guildmaster Tony: I've been thinking about that. Guildmaster Tony: I think we likely have enough interest that we can expand. Guildmaster Tony: There's been some interesting discoveries over in Morytania for example. Guildmaster Tony: Perhaps we should get a dig starter there as well?

    Teaser #21

Location: Outside of the HQ Building

Guildmaster Tony: You don't look like researchers? Soran, Emissary of Zaros: Correct. Velucia: No. We're collectors. We've heard about your discoveries. Velucia: And we want to offer to take some of them off your hands. Soran, Emissary of Zaros: Yes. My lord, Zaros, has a need of these artefacts. Velucia: I'm here on behalf of the museum. Velucia: Save you a trip back there. Velucia: Just anything you want to donate to the museum collection. Velucia: I'm your girl! Guildmaster Tony: I see. Well we have nothing just yet, early days of course. Soran, Emissary of Zaros: Yes. Guildmaster Tony: But I expect we'll find a veritable treasure trove of historical artefacts down there.

One of the things that confuses new players the most about this game is the UI

    Le Ribbon

If even I, as an eleven year veteran to this game, get thrown off by not one but TWO of these icons being changed for temporary events, I can't imagine how a new player would feel. These icons should never change. The Master Crafter event ended yesterday, so today's update would have been a great time for you to revert the crafting icon on the ribbon. Not to mention that the icons in the main game should ALL be changed to be the same as the ones on mobile. It is almost impossible for me to explain to new, clueless players, where something is in the game settings or UI.

My Personal Guide to AFK-camping Abyssal Demons with Magic

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 02:54 PM PDT

Hello all. This is a detailed explanation for how I AFK camp Abyssal Demons on the Slayer Tower roof with Magic, for up to over 1300 kills per hour. I'm sharing this now because with Archaeology right around the corner, there are two big reward spaces coming that could really shake up this activity: Ancient Invention and Relics. So, I figured I'd share the setup I'm "ending" on before all that releases, maybe to get some pointers at the very least on what could be improved right now, to have a better idea what to aim for post-Archaeology. I'm at almost 5 prestige currently, and definitely plan to at least hit max prestige.

I've tried to include links to the RuneScape Wiki for anything that might not be super common knowledge.

    TL;DR:

    • I stand here
    • My equipment and inventory and my ability bar
    • 1300 KPH
    • Deflect Melee + Enhanced Devoted 3 + Blood Amulet + Excalibur for emergencies = Live forever
    • Spring Cleaner 9001 + Adv. Gold Accumulator + Legendary Pet Scavenging for Noted Drops = more than 2m profit per hour with no extra effort
    • 900k+ combat XP/hour, 275k+ Constitution XP/hour

    I. Overview
    II. Equipment and Inventory
    III. Toolbelt
    IV. Legendary Pet
    V. Perks
    VI. Ability Bar
    VII. Gains
    VIII. What About Melee?
IX. Possible Changes to this Setup

    I. Overview

First off, I want to reiterate that I use this specifically for AFK, low-effort camping. To me, that means minimizing the things I need to click on/pay attention to, and getting a setup that can stay as long as my inventory of supplies lasts. In practice with this setup, this amounts to:

    • Re-dosing on my 2 potions when they run out
    • Using the Elite Enhanced Excalibur and/or Ancient Elven Ritual Shard when needed (which is much less often than the hard limit of their 5 minute cooldowns)
    • Area loot when I feel like it
    • Trigger Demon Slayer ability when I feel like it

Otherwise, I let Revolution++ (so no Detonate), auto-retaliate, Legendary Pet Scavenge ability, and the Spring Cleaner 9001 do all of the work. I can comfortably camp and watch TV/YouTube/movies, read, do chores, prepare meals, etc., confident that I won't die and that I'll consistently hit that average 1300 KPH, making okay profit for my [lack of] effort.

The spot that I stand at is two squares north and one square east of corner spot that overlooks the floor below. Seen here. As far as I am aware, the Slayer Tower roof is still better KPH than the Slayer Tower Resource Dungeon (though not by a whole lot). Naturally, the Wilderness can be much higher KPH.

Usually, people camping use the Attuned Ectoplasmator along with Demon Horn Necklace to sustain Soul Split to stay alive (and also Torment/Turmoil for more damage). I do not do this, as it cuts into profits quite a bit. Ghostly Essence hovers between 6400 and 7000 GP each, which means each kill costs between 640 and 700 GP (actually slightly more, because charges are also used when killing a Nechryael or Death Spawn). This means using the Attuned Ecto would have to add around 200 KPH or more in order to be positive on profit. As far as I can tell, it does not do this.

Instead, I am sustained by a combination of Deflect Melee, Enhanced Devoted 3, Devoted 2, and a Blood Amulet. Together, these keep HP high enough that uncommon use of Elite Enhanced Excalibur is enough to live forever.

As mentioned, I can consistently hit right around 1300 KPH. Things like looting, elite spawns, missing a potion timer by a bit, and simple RNG (demon wander ranges, Tsunami hitching, etc.) can affect this number, and sometimes I drop to around 1270 kills in an hour. Other times, I can hit closer to 1320 kills.

    II. Equipment and Inventory

Here is a picture of my equipment and inventory when I begin a camping session. I will try to explain everything concisely.

    Equipment

The Demon Slayer circlet and boots are simply best-in-slot (unless you want Silverhawks to train Agility). Each piece of Demon Slayer gear provides a +4% boost to damage and a +2% boost to XP in your chosen combat style. The accuracy penalty from it being Ranged gear is unimportant (except against elite mobs, I believe). Slayer Helm should be placed on the Slayer Helm Stand on Anachronia.

My testing has seemed to show that Cinderbane Gloves perform slightly better than Demon Slayer gloves in terms of damage, and they only cost around 7k per hour (this makes them positive on profit if they add a little less than 4 kills per hour). Demon Slayer gloves would be better if prioritizing XP.

The Illuminated God Book is just there for its combat bonuses. The Illuminated Book of Chaos's passive effect costs about 290k per hour, so it would need to add about 150 KPH to be positive on profit.

The Blood Amulet of Fury is, as mentioned, the primary method of healing. The Arcane Blood Necklace is superior, I just don't have it yet!

The Invention Skillcape slightly reduces costs, but it can be placed on the Anachonia Skillcape Rack, opening up the cape slot for the TokHaar-Kal-Mej. The savings from the Attack cape (which would prevent the Blood Amulet and Cinderbanes from losing charge 2% of the time) are incredibly minimal.

Obviously, the best luck ring owned should be worn. I'll get an HSR one day!

The Tirannwn Quiver has a Prayer bonus, so it technically ever so slightly reduces the frequency of having to use the Ritual Shard. You can equip your Large Rune Pouch instead to open up an inventory space.

I will discuss perks a little later on. Due to the necessity of Enhanced Devoted 3, I need two augmented pieces of armor, so no Demon Slayer legs. I use Subjugation, as it is the cheapest (in terms of Divine Charge drain) augmentable Magic power armor.

And of course, a staff is better than a wand + orb in this scenario.

    Inventory

I bring enough supplies for 3 hours. The two potions I use are Holy Overloads and Aggression flasks. Technically, Aggroverloads and Prayer Renewal flasks would be slightly more cost effective, but I already had a large stack of Holy Overloads. The Prayer Renewal effect is enough to sustain Deflect Melee long enough such that the Ancient Elven Ritual Shard is enough Prayer restoration (in fact, only about 200 Prayer Points are lost in a 5 minute window).

The Upgraded Gem Bag can be filled as desired. With relatively attentive looting, the Ruby and Diamond slots can be filled within 1-1.5 hours. The Dragonstone slot will very likely not fill in even 3 hours. Gems are not required to make profit, but they are a nice boost. More on profit breakdowns later.

The Heated Tea Flask is useful for removing the aggression effect in some situations, such as if you get crashed, need to quickly catch the Traveling Merchant/Warbands/other D&D, if you need to refresh your Slayer task, etc.

I use the Mask of the Abyss to teleport to the Slayer Tower.

The Large Rune Pouch need only hold Air Runes for Air Surge, but you can keep High Alch runes if desired (more on High Alching a little later).

The Spring Cleaner 9001 is essential. It should be set to High Alch all Rune salvage. Medium Adamant salvage can either be High Alched for higher profit (at greater up-front cost), or disassembled for a decent amount of useful components. You will turn a profit even if you disassemble the Medium Adamant salvage.

Pure Essence, Magic Logs, and Fire Orbs will be the main drops collected (aside from Coins), and Abyssal Demons drop all 4 normal kinds of charms.

    III. Toolbelt

The Advanced Gold Accumulator is a huge boost to profits. I would highly, highly recommend investing the time into acquiring it if you plan on spending a lot of time camping Abyssal Demons, or any mob that drops GP for that matter. It will typically pick up more than 700k GP per hour (this is after the 10% tax).

I choose to collect all 4 charms with my Charming Imp. Even if you were to instead consume all 4 types, it would only be about 6000 Summoning XP per hour. I do have it consume all Spirit Gems, however.

Nechryael occasionally drop seeds, so the Seedicide will provide a very small amount of Farming XP. Neither Abyssal Demons nor Nechryael drop unnoted herbs.

    IV. Legendary Pet

A Legendary Pet will very appreciably boost your profits. The two important abilities to have on it are Scavenge and High Level Alchemy.

Assuming you have the Advanced Gold Accumulator, your pet should be set to Scavenge only for Noted Items. This will mainly cause it to pick up the three aforementioned noted drops: Pure Essence, Magic Logs, and Fire Orbs. At the time of writing, checking the box to pick up Stone Spirits as well will negatively impact profit.

Thanks to the Abyssal Whip and the Rare Drop Table, Abyssal Demons occasionally drop an item that can be manually High Alched. The High Level Alchemy ability on the Legendary Pet can be used once every 10 minutes to High Alch without using any runes. This is plenty often enough to High Alch any such drops without having to use or even carry Nature or Fire Runes.

The third ability isn't too important. I have Life Saver selected, just in case I'm AFK too long and miss re-dosing, or if I get very unlucky with elite spawns. You could use Beast of Burden to prolong your trips.

    V. Perks

The perks I use for my staff are Caroming 3 + Demon Slayer, and Aftershock 3 + Precise 1. Each has a 13.37% of being rolled at level 120 Invention while using an Extreme Invention potion, with 4 of the dominant component and 1 of the lesser. That is, 4 Shadow + 1 Ancient for the former, and 4 Ilujankan + 1 Armadyl for the latter. The position of the single component does not appear to matter.

On my armor top, I have the typical armor perks for camping any Slayer mob, those being Scavenging 3 and Biting 3. Both of these perks benefit from the equipment level 20 proc chance boost.

On my armor bottom, I have Enhanced Devoted 3 as already mentioned, along with Impatient 3 + Devoted 2. Impatient 3 + Devoted 3 would of course be better, but it is very rare and I don't have it! Again, both of these gizmos benefit from equipment level 20.

ED3 by itself is enough, but Devoted helps a little bit and, in the long run, reduces the amount of times I need to bother using Excalibur. For those that don't know, Devoted "stacks" with Enhanced Devoted in the sense that Devoted can proc while Enhanced Devoted is currently active. At equipment level 20, Devoted 2 provides an additional 2-3% damage reduction on top of Enhanced Devoted 3. See here for more information.

    VI. Ability Bar

Here is a picture of my ability bar.

Most of it should be self-explanatory. With Caroming 3, Chain is the best ability, as it deals damage to many targets and also aggros demons that haven't yet been affected by the Aggression potion. Corrupted Blast is of course next, followed by Dragon Breath.

An Ultimate is typically triggered as often as possible, every 30 seconds.

I believe I could actually make a couple changes to this bar. Most importantly, I believe Impatient 3 should allow me to include Wild Magic losslessly. Secondly, I believe Sacrifice can be swapped with Wrack at little to no DPS loss, which would slightly reduce the frequency of needing to use Excalibur.

    VII. Gains

As mentioned, I hit riiiight at 1300 KPH, though occasionally I have hours as low as ~1270 kills. In addition, I usually hit around 150 KPH on Nechryael.

Thanks to the Demon Slayer equipment, this translates to more than 900k XP/hour in the chosen combat style, as well as more than 275k XP/hour in Constitution.

Now let's talk profits. The costs are, in order of size: Springs, Potions, Divine Charge, Blood Amulet charge, Air Runes, Cinderbane Gloves charge.

Together, the Spring Cleaner 9001 (set to alch Medium Adamant salvage in addition to all Rune) and the Advanced Gold Accumulator cover all costs, and on top of that produce about 1.5-1.7m profit in an hour, all in pure GP (and this is with some conservatively high estimates on the above costs - actual margins with smart buying/selling should be bigger). With the Legendary Pet and very minimal area looting, I typically hit 700-800k per hour in the three main noted drops (Pure Essence, Magic Logs, and Fire Orbs). This brings the total profit without any extra input beyond what is needed to continue killing to more than 2m per hour.

Active looting of uncut gems can add another 200k profit per hour. High Alchable drops are quite variable; you could see none at all in 3 hours, or you could see several in an hour. In addition, over time I of course accrue some RDT drops, such as Yew logs, certain kinds of planks, Raw Sharks, Super Restores, Prayer Potions, Crystal Keys, and Crystal Triskellions.

Finally, there are drops not [directly] related to profit. You can expect about 400 Crimson, 100 Gold, 50 Green, and 10 Blue Charms in an hour. At equipment level 20, Scavenging 3 will usually proc more than 40 times an hour.

    VIII. What about Melee?

I haven't fully tried AFK Melee yet, but it's very possible (maybe even probable) that it can achieve a higher average KPH. It has the advantage of having good AoE Thresholds and a better Ultimate in Meteor Strike as opposed to Tsunami. Chain + Caroming 3 is the main advantage of Magic. (Also, THE optimal Melee setup technically requires 112 Farming due to the Corbicula rex Ranch Out of Time perk).

IX. Possible Changes to this Setup

As mentioned, I believe the ability bar could be improved, with Wild Magic most importantly (thanks to Impatient 3).

I don't believe that Aftershock 2 + Planted Feet is better than Aftershock 3 + Precise 1, but I did consider it briefly. I could be wrong though!

I could be wrong about Cinderbanes vs. Demon Slayer gloves.

I haven't done testing on Weapon Poison potions or Armor Spikes, mostly because I have just assumed they are not worth the extra effort/cost. I could be wrong though!

Overload salves could be used to remove the need for the Ancient Elven Ritual Shard (saving a click every ~8 minutes), but they would add to cost considerably.

And anything I learn from you all in the comments!

Thanks for reading! Please let me know if you have any suggestions or critiques to improve my setup! Or if you have any questions about anything I've written!

    Suggestion and... Request?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 02:21 PM PDT

Could you create a method of turning main-hand swords into cosmetic off-hand? I mean. There are many main hand swords that do not have an off-hand version. Both cosmetic and combat equipment. Example: Vesta longsword, anger sword and probably many others.
I would really love to be able to use two of those at the same time. Another point. the size of the swords. I think many swords are ridiculously short, small. Some have a very good design, but they are so small that they discourage their use.
As well as many 2h sword would look better as a longsword in relation to its size. It seems to me that a correct size would be that of the Silverlight.
The new swords that came out today seemed great to me until I saw their very small size, and immediately gave up the zodyak track.
It's just my opinion, but I really wish that I could at least have a vesta longsword cosmetic as an off-hand, or one of those other weapons that have no off-hand counterpart.
