Feedback - log-in and performance issues

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 07:37 AM PDT

    Hey guys.

We're trying to get some more information on the performance issues some players are currently experiencing. We posted this thread last week, but are keen to get as much information from you all as possible so we can help you all get back online without any issues!

We've been seeing some suggestions around client stability, log-in issues, graphical abnormalities, black screens, client load times, FPS, etc. - but we want to try to narrow them down so we can build specific fixes.

    Please let us know...

    • whether you're on mobile or PC
    • which geographic region you're in (West Coast USA, for example)
    • a short description of the issue
    • how long you've been experiencing issues
    • specs of your PC or Mobile
    • if you're using a VPN
    • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

We'll be monitoring this thread and may reach out to some of you via DM if we need some more information.

Please bear in mind that as more countries go into lockdown due to COVID-19, global internet speeds from your ISPs may be slower due to volume of traffic.

Thank you (for both your info and patience).

EDIT: Here's the latest guidance if you are experiencing issues from our Support Centre.

    Other

    Ancient Summoning

    General

    • Uncover Ancient summoning in the Infernal Source by completing a mystery.
    • Requires level 45-96 Summoning and 68 Archaeology.
    • The contracts are tradeable.

    Summoning Process

    • Create a binding contract with new materials and charms.
    • Kill a demon while that contract is in your inventory to bind it.
    • The contract then acts like a summoning pouch.
    • XP comes from capturing and using these demons rather than pouch-making.

    Known Demon Familiars

    • Hellhound (45 Summoning):
      • Passive: Absorbs 10% of any damage dealt to you by taking the hit itself.
      • Scroll: Heals itself (the Hellhound familliar)
      • Health: 20,000
    • Abyssal demon:
      • Passive: Your familiar will automatically teleport to your target and deal damage when it teleports.
      • Scroll: Bind and teleblock your target.
    • Kalgerion demon:
      • Passive: One of the strongest familiars in terms of damage for its Summoning level.
      • Scroll: Temporarily provide the player, familiar and nearby other players with a critical strike buff.
    • Ripper demon (96 Summoning):
      • Passive: Deal more damage to your target according to how much missing health it has.
      • Scroll: Replicates the Ripper demon's 'Jump' attack dealing up to 350% damage of its max hit.
      • Normal Attack: It can hit twice and is pretty strong, similar to the steel titan.

    Other

    • Not all demons are combat related, there are at least 2 skilling ones.
    • Some of the models will be changed, before and after the update. (Ex: Ripper demon).

    Ancient Invention

    • Requires 85-105/110 Invention.

Now is the time to seriously pump out ads for RS3

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 07:22 AM PDT

With everyone quarantined at home now is the time to throw out tons of ads for the game and bring in new players.

Even just with more players online than usual it feels soooooo much more lively and I love it. New blood is so important for the game, and it'd be a lost opportunity not to do this whilst everyone is gaming at home, watching videos online, etc

[Opinion] The Noxious Scythe is the best weapon in the game

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 04:22 AM PDT

TL;DR Sorry for long rant about this. I am running out of things to do in quarantine.

    I'm serious, please help me.

    • It comes from the most stylistically unique boss in the game. Essentially, Araxxor was a precursor to Telos, so some may argue that Telos is the most unique, but he has a lot of lore behind his presence and he feels kind of shoehorned into the desert. Yeah, Telos is cool, but walking through the Haunted Woods, past a port of tormented dead, bordering the foreboding city walls of Darkmeyer, lies a dark cave, beside which is the cocooned corpse of a human. The cave has atmosphere, and entering leads you down a crooked, gooey path with more cocooned corpses hanging from the ceiling. FFS, when you enter the fight in solo, you're greeted with a very disturbing message: You enter the den... alone. Everyone down to the artists and animators who worked on this cave and boss fight is a fucking genius. Fighting Telos at the literal heart of the planet sounds important. The music is epic. You know you're doing something important when you're killing him. But when you wander into Araxxor's cave, you feel small. You feel weak. And you feel alone. If anything, Telos owes all of its uniqueness to the inspiration it took from Araxxor.
    • The weapon itself is as creepy and unique as the boss. Sure, scythes existed in-game beforehand, but not as practical weapons. This was new. Using a scythe as a primary is just so badass. From the sharp navy edges to the indigo core dotted with bright spots, the blade is a literal fang sewn roughly to the leg and just dripping with the toxic venom. The weapon is a perfect representation of the process used to create it and the boss from which it came.
    • The halberd animations were just made for this weapon. The noxious scythe makes a better halberd-class weapon than halberds. I noticed this when I used it with a keepsaked dragon halberd because my licks didn't look as clean and abilities like quake and hurricane looked less crisp. This is the one melee weapon in the game that never looks awkward, even when my rotations cancel abilities in awkward orders. The weapon always moves cleanly and it just always makes me feel like a badass to use, even when I'm getting shredded by the opponent.
    • It has a decent spec for PvP. Not really a PvPer but as with all nox weapons, Mirrorback is like vengeance on crack on legacy mode.
    • It is still viable for PvM despite not being a t92. Since the Zaros Godsword was given its own niche, the scythe is pretty much the only weapon in its tier not already outclassed by a t92. And if used properly it can still lay down some serious DPM, especially given the strategic advantage of not being required to stand in melee distance of your opponent.
    • It is the best slayer weapon in the game. Hands down, nothing beats the AoE of the scythe. This weapon was made to slice, dice and disembowel. Magic and ranged have their own AoE-based advantages, but unlike them, the Scythe took a combat style previously known for one-on-one DPM and gave it the ability to take out hordes of enemies. It fundamentally changed how people looked at slayer and eliminated the need for a multicannon for efficient melee slaying.
    • It inspired the best melee weapon on Old School RuneScape. A scythe from Morytania dropped by an arachnid boss that can hit multiple targets at once? I wonder where they came up with such a badass idea.
    • It didn't fail as a niche weapon. Items like Torag's Hammers, Verac's Flail, Javelins, etc may have looked cool, but they never really made waves as awesome weapons. In fact, before EoC, Torag's Hammers were considered worse than a rune scimitar and they still suck on Old School. The scythe is cool because it's not one of the "standard" weapon types, i.e. Bow Staff Sword, Bow Staff Sword, Bow Staff Sword, Bow Staff Sword. This uniqueness is one of the things that gave the abyssal whip its legendary status. How long do you think it will be before we see a t92 chakram set? t92 sling? t92 pike? t92 oudachi? I assume it will be a very long time. Right now, the single most unique high-level weapon out there is the noxious scythe.
    • It can be dyed and particles. Duh.

    LootScape should NOT benefit Archaeology

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 10:59 AM PDT

That is a trash thing to do, the whole point is a level playing field for all people, and if you aren't able to watch the stream then its not a level one.

Sure most of us are working from home now but a majority of the streams are during the day for North American workers and having LootScape give you benefits for training Archaeology. What about those Asain players where its 1 AM for them when the stream is going on? How is that fair in the slightest?

Jagex, why do you keep lying? The Yak Track is just as grindy if not more grindy than last time.

    "or Smithing" Zodi-Yak tasks

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 07:24 AM PDT

tl;dr the Smithing tasks should be "amount of bars smithed" rather than "amount of items".

While I appreciate the effort to make tasks more do-able (especially with half of the 2nd option tasks missing until Archaeology), I feel like it's a false choice when there is a clear lack of equality between the two options.

For instance, burying 200 bones or ashes takes much less time than smithing 200 items. Furthermore, this encourages the smithing of only 1-bar items, since the time taken now scales with the number of bars used. If making an elder rune pickaxe takes twice as long as making elder rune boots but gives the same progress towards a task (and it did for me), why would I make anything else?

The smithing challenges, especially when asking for the 'same number of something' as other skills, would only really make sense if it was asking for how many bars you use (so making an elder rune platebody would count as 5 progress towards the task, rather than 1).

Hopefully this can be changed for the next one, if not this one (since we have 5 more weeks of it).

The client was stuck at loading resources, like it has been for the past few weeks for some people, so I uninstalled the application and when i went to download it, it errors out on me. The webpage keeps crashing as soon as i click "download". I checked to see if i can play on mobile and that fails to load as well (both worked a couple hours ago.) I just downloaded Runelite and can play Old School just fine.

    Araxxor quest?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 06:03 AM PDT

Wasn't there something last year mentioned about a quest for Araxxor to give it some lore?

Rax is my favorite boss and I would like to see a quest dedicated to it.

Also, once this quest is released please do not make the reward make Rax easier in any way as this will just cut down the value of nox weaponry.

Super low sound for Elite Clue scroll scan

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 10:13 AM PDT

Compared to other sounds that are controlled by Sound Effects. They are very very low. And if you are doing a run for 25 clues in a row it takes a very long time. Usually I watch stuff along side it to make the time pass by better and its really annoying to level all the sounds.

For example, if I level the sound so I can hear a streamer and a scan simultaneously, Ill be 'pleasantly' greeted with a combat with a wizard that will force me to lower the overall volume by 50% for the duration of the combat.

I think it would be great if it was made louder.

    Confirmed Perks from Ancient Materials

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 11:50 AM PDT

    Vintage

    • Weapon: Crackling, Relentless
    • Armour: Crackling, Relentless
    • Tool: Furnace, Fortune

    Timeworn

    • Weapon: Equilibrium, Ruthless
    • Armour: None
    • Tool: Prosper, Fortune

    Historic

    • Weapon: Looting, Ultimatums, Genocidal, Precise
    • Armour: Turtling, Looting, Ultimatums, Genocidal
    • Tool: Imp Souled

    Classic

    • Weapon: Efficient, Scavenging
    • Armour: Efficient, Scavenging
    • Tool: Efficient, Furnace, Fortune

We also have new ranks confirmed: Biting 4, Precise 6, Equilibrium 4, Scavenging 4, Crackling 4, Flanking 4

Max Rank for New perks: Fortune 3, Ruthless 3, Relentless 5

This seems to indicate that some components will be obsoleted: Explosive, Ancient, Precious, Precise, Rumbling, Bandos, possibly Zamorak/Zaros (for tools). Really sucks for those that spent the money for stuff like Ancient/Rumbling components. We also are not able to get back components/recycle existing gizmos.

All three Ancient Gizmos are unlocked with a single blueprint, of which there is a tradeable version of the blueprint for extra scraps, likewise, the Ancient Materials are tradeable.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Some of it makes sense, but it is pretty annoying that if you have spare expensive components like Ancient or you have a stockpile of components like Explosive, you're kind of SOL.

Jagex, Please don't forget the details!

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:47 PM PDT

TLDR; Lore and world building related details should exist in every update.

I understand that this might not affect most players, but I still wanted to share my thoughts. One of the biggest problems with short term events is a lack of lore and world building.

I'd like to take the example of the new Yak track event. There are questions that this event raises without offering any answers.

Example 1: The yak... He says his master is now married and lives with his wife and children. Who is the master? Is it the same dude from the Tuska comes event? Is it the master of the observatory near castle wars? There's no hints at all! Where did this yak come from?

Example 2: The new armor is apparently Dioscuri battlemage robes. Well, there's no prior mention of Dioscuri in RS lore at all. Are they a group of warriors? Maybe some ancient clan? Are they magical beings from another plane? These types of questions could be very easily answered with some simple letters/books/journals you could find near the event.

As someone who loves details and story elements, this yak track throws in new things purely for the sake of an event. And the larger problem is that this seems to be a running theme with all of the cosmetic items. There's no lore based reason for them to exist in the game and as such they feel like out of place objects. Note, I'm not making a point about ruining immersion or anything either. I'm trying to say that over the years, Jagex has added cosmetics that are out of place and turn away players because there is no story/logic behind their existence. I believe that if you start adding things with fancy names but provide no extra details, it screams sloppy design and becomes a source of inconsistency that turns players away from the game.

I think one of the best examples of what I'm talking about is the kethsi robes. The kethsi robes are a purely cosmetic set has a connection to the story elements of the game. Every player who has followed the quests understands what Kethsi is. Therefore, even if Jagex were to release a solomon's outfit with the kethsi name, players might feel more of a connection to it than something they've never heard of before.

Note, I am also not saying that cosmetics should be removed (some players will disagree). I think that there can be a balance between cosmetics and storytelling that both Jagex and players can approve of. I also don't think that this is a complicated task. Coming up with a simple piece of lore for Dioscuri robes should be easy. Maybe the hard part would be localizing it for the different languages.

Does anyone else feel this way?
