    Ali The Chad

If Pollnivneach was a town in Kandarin full of people named "Joe" it never would have been changed.

    Just saying.

Sad to see the game losing its identity over time

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 03:15 AM PST

It's as if the people in charge of the updates are completely out of touch with what made the game so good originally. Not even talking about the Ali changes, but just everything the past few years...

What happened to doing short simple human-kingdom quests like Gertrude's Cat, Hand in the Sand, or Monk's Friend? Just helping out a random NPC with a task. There's room for large epic quests too, but it feels like every quest now is some huge undertaking, even for recent short ones like You Are It, it feels like it takes ages to make a new quest even if they don't need any new assets.

What happened to just releasing a single new slayer mob every once in a while? It doesn't have to have some massive elaborate dungeon or a huge new area with a boss, just a simple new mob put in an area that's been dead for a while like Orks Rift or the Gorak Plane; there could be a new higher-level type of Gorak. There's a ton of empty areas that could use a new slayer mob to bring people back to them.

What happened to simple skilling updates like adding a new tree type or a new fish. They don't even have to be used for anything relevant at first, just a different type of tree to cut and log to burn (doesn't have to even connect to ranged weapons with fletching, could just be arrow shafts at first). You don't have to add a whole big new fishing area just to add a new type of fish.

Simple small content additions, bring the scope of projects back down below the clouds. Everything feels far too over-scoped now.

After this week's updates, can we finally change the left-click option on Stray Dogs from Shoo-away to Pet. It encourages animal abuse.

Its time to free the animals in Ardy Zoo from horrorble conditions

Thanks for changing Ali, but now I'm saddened to see that Jagex is overwhelmingly white hardly diverse

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 10:01 AM PST

I know it's been suggested often on reddit, so let's let the ninja's hear we want this easy fix.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 11:22 AM PST

Jagex sent me a super special in game message to celebrate 120 farming <3

[SUGGESTION] We really need this new title!

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:42 AM PST

Some suggestions to make runescape more diverse that are sorely needed.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 09:54 AM PST

Since Jagex finally did what everyone was asking for, and changed the desert Ali's names to more diverse range, i think there are some other areas Jagex could improve on, because i believe Gielinor has plenty of opportunities to move away from bigoted and shallow stereotypes, while allowing a more diverse range of different people to be represented.

    Dwarfs.

Seriously? They're called little people. Word Dwarf has long been a deragatory term used to describe people who are born shorter, and constantly calling them names is incredibly insulting, and makes them one dimensional characters.

    Canifis werevolves.

The names of all the canifis werevolves are slavic in nature, and paints Slavs as bloodthirsty, enraged and dubious characters. I mean they walk around like harmless people you can slaughter, but once you attack them, they show it was all a ruse and become 3 times as powerful. Slavs aren't the only ones with dubious nature, it's a universal trait, and it is poorly representing various groups. We NEED a werewolf called Tony and Habib.

    Penguins

Penguins are all one-dimensional russian reference, constantly talking about the motherland and taking over the world. It's a dated reference to the 90s, and has no time in a modern game like runescape.

    The black knights

Why is that the Black knights are the bad ones, and the White knights are the good ones? Also, they're nameless drones just chilling and plotting to do evil. All the white knights have Sir title and interesting names, what's up with that? Time to go away with these ancient stereotypes Jagex, it doesn't look good in 2020.

On Pollnivneach, Ali, and why the reasoning for the change does not hold water

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 10:42 AM PST

This weeks controversal change saw the removal of Ali from pollnivneach. The big claim for doing this change is that it falls into a harmful stereotyping by making it so all members of a group all are the same.

The issue with this claim is that it requires you to ignore that the Kharidian desert and the kharidians are already written as a diverse people in a region of multiple city states. So what effect does the town have on how we view kharidians?

The only way it would be a reasonable take that this is harmful stereotyping, would be if:

    1. Pollnivneach is the initial encounter with the desert, thus forming first impression and how the player judges the region and the people.
    2. Pollnivneach is the only or the major part of the desert, thus being the bulk of the player interaction.
    3. The pollnivneach stereotype is extended to all of the desert

All 3 are false, and thus the "its stereotyping them all as the same" falls flat because it requires selective amnesia about the ingame content. Al kharid makes the initial impression, that alongside Sophanem and Menaphos make up the bulk of the kharidian content.

In fact, this is why it works well because it surprises you by being a complete change from the rest of the kharidian content. That is why it is memorable, and players remembers it so well due to it being distinct and absurd.

The feud is an line of absurd obstacles between you and your simple goal of finding a specific man with the name Ali. The joke is not at the expense of the townspeople or kharidians, but at the adventurer that gets confused and fleeced by the end of the story as the universe seemingly throws more and more improbable hurdles in their road.

Any racism read into the quest is then more likely to be the users own projecting, since it is not a facet of the town or the quest itself. If you want to make changes to harmful pieces then you should at least be able to identify them first.

After Archaeology comes out, could we please start to get more updates on area graphics?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 01:03 PM PST

For example, if you compare the new Everlight area to the Meiyrditch that is righ next to it you soon notice the differences that are starting be huge and quite jarring (this is just an example, not asking Meiyrditch to be priority as of which places would need updated graphics the most).

Reviews of Runescape Quest "The Feud"

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 12:52 AM PST

    Worst review:

    1 star - JagexOsbourne

"The Ali joke denies the town members the rights to individual character, effectively making them walking jokes. There is little inclusivity in a joke that lumps together a culture and slaps on a single label, particularly when there is weak representation outside of that label. To me, it feels like a joke that a team of people would make about others who aren't them, and they have little information about, and that is what it was.

On a creative level, I also find it a pretty lazy joke. I know there are many people championing the Feud, but no one has ever said it's their favourite quest, and the joke has never been celebrated like the troll names or the White Knight names." 1

    5 stars - Hann_rensle

"You ever do the quest the feud? That shit had be laughing so hard, it's stupid jokes like 'oh that guy left to use the bathroom, he might be a while because there are no bathrooms in runescape' Everything about that quest is hilarious and made me love good written quests."

    5 stars - Brendenx3

"The feud has some of the best dialogue in the game as well. Everyone is named Ali. And you realize that you've been conned by the first one just to buy his garbage." 1

    5 stars - Hyperscore

"The Feud was definitely my favorite quest as far as the dialogue." 1

    5 stars - DaenGaming

"I absolutely loved the Feud's dialogue. The fact every NPC in Pollnivneach is named Ali (even the women) is also hilarious." 1
