    Rule 5 Open Discussion

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 07:25 AM PST

    Hello!

We wanted to have an open discussion on Rule 5, one of our more restrictive rules in terms of content that we allow on the subreddit.

Here is the full rule in full context:

    5. Do not advertise channels, social media, clans, etc.

Do not spam or advertise your YouTube, livestream, Discord, etc. Posting content is perfectly fine; spamming it is not.

In addition, we do not allow submissions that advertise or attempt to recruit players for clans. If you want to recruit members on /r/runescape, you can add your clan to the subreddit clan list.

    Videos/Livestreams:

Any submission created with the intent to advertise or promote the channel the content is hosted on will be removed.

    • This includes advertising an upcoming video release or livestream with or without naming the host channel(s).
    • Exceptions exist for Official RuneScape/Jagex-hosted content and content which directly involves and/or includes employees of Jagex.
    • Content creators should avoid oversharing their content on the subreddit to dissuade the potential of advertising their channels.

    Discord Invites:

    • Any submission which shares an invite to a Discord Server will be removed.
    • Exceptions exist for Official Servers.

    Clans:

    • Any submission which advertises a clan with the intent of recruitment will be removed.
    • This includes submissions from players who are looking for potential clans to join.

We are considering heavily modifying this rule, if not completely removing it. We feel it is not best serving the community as it currently stands, and it appears to be doing more harm than good.

The rule was originally put in place to prevent spamming and advertising Youtube, Twitch streams, and clan advertisements. As things have evolved it has included other things that may fall under this umbrella such as Discord, where we felt it was better to protect users from communities we couldn't properly verify.

We also need to address sites like Patreon, or any creator donation site. If a user wishes to put a blog or piece on a creator donation site (not behind a paywall) and link it to reddit, is that acceptable?

Should we have a limit on what players can self advertise, and if so, how would you like to see it implemented?

Remembering when ZEZIMA was my childhood hero, we all wanted to be just like him from RSC to Old school 07. Only the real OGs of the game will appreciate this, these are the days we can’t get back

If "The Feud" Quest isn't/hasn't changed, or Ali brought back, then this would be one scenario

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:54 AM PST

Maysa the Hag: Old hag indeed! I have a name you know!
Player: Let me guess it wouldn't be Ali would it?

Previously this made sense, since Player had only seen people named "Ali".

But now, it seems that Player sees a brown skinned, Arabic person, and just assumes their name is "Ali".

A recent quote from Mod Osborne about those who should not be named.

''I've also seen a couple of people saying that by making changes for 1% of our player base, we have peeved 99%. To me, championing the 1% is the point''

Jagex being the 1% who like TH. Please remove as 99% of the player base finds TH 0fence-if.

I hope someday we can override our legendary pets, with you know all our other pets in the game. Legendary pet benefits (looting) too OP not to use.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:41 PM PST

I've started my grind on collecting boss pets, most recently I just got Ellie from Chaos elementals. I want to use Ellie as much as possible but I just can't considering most of if not all my slayer takes benefit from having my legendary pet around because of the looting feature.

Either the legendary pet feature should be active IF owned with active familiars or just let us override legendary pets.

I feel like this should help a bit with the excessive drakes in the game. I mean I needed a legendary pet, thought Drake was cool back then but now I'm just sick of it...

One Year Later, what do people think of Onyx being removed from Gem Rocks?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:17 PM PST

Almost 1 year ago, Onyxes were removed from Gem Rocks. This was because it was made super AFK and it crashed them to alch price. Fastforward 1 year later, the price of Onyx is 1.8M, which was higher even before M/S rework. PvM Hub drove the demand up a lot. Mining is severely terrible fully AFK.

What do players think of this nowadays? I heard on release there was a ton of outrage.
