Submit your questions for tomorrow's live stream - RuneScape's 19th birthday

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:28 AM PST

    Afternoon, everyone!

In case you didn't know, RuneScape turned 19 on Saturday.

So, tomorrow's live stream (Tuesday, 17:00 GMT, live on Twitch), will focus in on celebrating 19 years of RuneScape. As well as a bumper quiz (with Bonds to be won!), we'll also be inviting some long-serving members of the team onto the sofas to answer your questions about the early days of the game's development. Expect anecdotes, and an insight into RuneScape you've not seen before!

We'd love your questions - the more creative and open to discussion the better - so submit them below, and we'll ask as many relevant questions as we can.

Join us from 5pm tomorrow - and if you'd like to take part in the quiz, please ensure you've enabled the QuizKit application when we go live (the little box at the bottom of the screen), and enable access.

14 Years ago I set out on a game that was a big part of my childhood, and today I finally achieved max right back where I started.

Found my old Runescape mouse I bought off of the first Jagex merch store in 08/09?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 07:33 PM PST

Jagex you need to come out and say people who abuse bugs will be perm banned.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:58 AM PST

I understand the TH bug was a very bad bug but perm banning people would be unfair seeing as they've never really perm banned people for other bugs BUT! They need to come out and say any future bugs that are severely abused will be perm banned so nobody can complain if they abuse the next bug that comes out.

Power to the players? How come this never happens anymore? Except for some pet polls...

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:01 PM PST

This was the best moneymaking pet idea, hands down. So creative and we could've given Jagex a challenge but nope, we just got another bird pet.

    The Silent Majority

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:50 PM PST

Question: How much XP do you think the average Runescape (RS3) player gains per MONTH? (Feel free to reply with your best guess, but at the very least, have a number in mind.)

Several days ago, I posted a thread about how 120-skills in every skill is a mistake for Jagex to pursue for several reasons, but largely because it's a lot of dev time spent on updates for a tiny percentage of the playerbase. I got many comments for and many against my notion. Consider this post the sequel.

I am a number cruncher in life, so I naturally see truths and patterns in numbers. Much of the active RS3 population has seemed to adopt the mentality that the community as a whole is high-level, mostly maxed (or working on it at least), and eager to take on the increased level cap if it is increased to 120 in the coming years. It seems like 99s are more common than not common, and making millions of XP in a gaming session seems commonplace.

But is that true? Is the average everyday RS3 player nowadays a high-level soon-to-be or already maxed player? If nothing else, surely they have the quest cape or max cape while working on those trims, right?

Well, back to the original question...how much XP do you think the average RS3 player gains per month? 10 million? 30 million? 150 million?

Try 750,000. That's it. The median amount of XP gained each month in 2019 closely hovers around 750,000 per player.

Okay, 0 for 1 maybe. Let's try another. How much total XP does the average non-banned account have?

    Take a stab at it.

    The answer: About 600,000.

The 75th percentile may be closer to what you perceive as "average"...for 2019, it's somewhere around 7.5 million XP per month. The lifetime XP for accounts at the 75th percentile is about 30 million XP.

So if we take the "75th percentile" of all accounts to be indicative of today's meta or average player (which is statistically wrong), we still only have accounts with 1, maybe 2, 99s on average. Not the picture many players like to paint of maxed players walking around everywhere.

But all is not amiss here - nearly a quarter million people are ranked in Invention and about 75,000 have completed a Master Clue Scroll, which indicates a large percentage of the game is engaged in later game content.

All in all, though, I posit that the majority of RS3 players are not endgame players. There's a lot of players heading that way in the next couple of years, but the majority is still well away from the maxed endgame. We as a playerbase, and Jagex as a company, need to not neglect this group, and I argue that Jagex's new content efforts need to be focused on this group, not the endgamers. (You may argue that there's already a lot of content, but I argue that there's also a lot of endgame content already, and much of the existing mid-high level content is hopelessly dated and subpar.)

Just wanted to shake this notion I keep seeing about everyone being maxed and such. Not true. Not true by far.

What's your story when you first ever stepped foot in the members zone, what did you have to do to acquire membership (back in the day)

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:03 AM PST

We all have a story, I wanna hear it.

Mine was asking my parents for ages to pay for my membership as a child back in 2005/6, they always said no so one day I just used her debit card without her knowing and dang when that shit went through I logged on and felt so powerful and free, it was like being born into a world of endless possibilies.

Although I kinda feel bad about it and she eventually found out but magically allowed me to keep it going, I think the karma was spending my whole bank on adamant trimmed armour for it to get scammed like a day later and ruin my whole life at that point.

    Twitch Prime Loot

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:31 AM PST

I'm stumped, I know many threads have been here before, but I'm pretty sure I've tried every possible way and it's not working, here's what I've done:

    - Linked Accounts, claimed loot on twitch page, then clicked through the hyperlink to confirm accounts are linked, where it tells me "Success, you now have access to all of your twitch prime loot." This is all I've ever had to do.
    - I went through the main runescape site and clicked through claiming the rewards through there, which just brings me back to twitch to go through the same process, which i entertained, and still no result.
    - I've unlinked, then relinked twitch as well.

    Am I missing something?
