Delaying archaeology to have the J-Mods play the skill from 1-99/120 without cheats is the single best decision Jagex has made in years

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 07:14 AM PST

As someone who loves skills on release (reached 120 in the top 100ish of Invention) I was really looking forward to crushing out Archaeology and gaining some levels again, but I am happy it got delayed.

Invention was an unmitigated disaster, at first training the skill by weapons was so freaking slow, a level 10 weapon disassembled into 30,000 xp with the weapons + augmentor costing an exorbitant amount of GP for the experience it gained. It was cheaper and faster to just dissasemble random items instead of leveling items, let alone the OP xp rates from gizmos.

The players complained and they changed the skill, they gave a 1800%, yes that big, of an XP boost to the gear you were using. This meant leveling was the new meta and you could get over ~1m xp/hr just killing random slayer mobs. I personally did Muspah's with Gano (d/a) and a Nox Staff (siphon).

To this day invention is pretty unbalanced for the xp/hr you are getting, this is evidenced by the fact that ~1/16 people who have unlocked invention have 200m in the skill and over half have 99.

Now the delay will allow the J-Mods to play out certain parts, see if its frustrating to do certain things, whether you do a method for too long or too little, etc.... All these sorts of things that you don't experience when playing on an accelerated server or spawning in items. Hopefully this will lead to a smoother release and a more fun experience

Suggestion: Update the trapper skilling outfits to benefit Big Game Hunter

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 10:00 AM PST

Just got into Big Game Hunter and it's been a blast! But one disconnect that I noticed is that the trapper outfit provides no benefit to anything BGH related. This is even weirder considering how the blueprint is bought exclusively using hunter marks, which are obtained only consistently from BGH (and randomly from skilling hunter on the island, but this is infrequent).

Some cursory benefits I could think of when worn:

-Provide 3 free teleports a day to BGH dinosaurs (not 3 per, just 3 total)

-Increased chance of double and triple encounters (this one seems like a given!)

-Provides an increased chance of double supplies from woodcutting vines/wood (stacks with camp bonus)

-Increased chance of double meat acquired when skinning felled dinosaurs (all other drops are normal)

-Provide a chance that the lowest damage poison frog is removed (not sure how I'd feel about this considering the camp bonus does this also, might be too op)

Obviously it wouldn't make sense to have ALL of the above attached to trapper gear (and maybe should only apply to volcanic trapper), but I think it'd really streamline and update BGH if at least 1 or 2 were attached to the gear.

Why is there no Run off poll for the clue scroll pet if the Deer only won by 31 votes?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 01:35 PM PST

For the sake of a popular winner, why not let us vote on the final 3 entries considering the very narrow victory?

The community needs clarity regarding PvM macros

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:15 PM PST

I know, this is a question asked many times on this subreddit with no response. But, it is worth asking again. I understand the general rule of "one click, one action" but it's not always that clear cut.

Here's a grey example. What if someone uses a keyboard macro that uses one button to cycle through inputs? For example, I bind the 1 key to output 5 on the first press, 6 on the second press, 7 on the third press, then loop. So I hit 111 (three inputs) for pf switch -->sunshine-->re-equip (three outputs). Is this okay?

Now, take the above example, but 111 outputs shift1, shift2, shift3. Still 3 inputs for 3 outputs, but now you're skipping having to press the shift key. Does that cross the line?

I have seen elite PvM players use macros for things like equip pf switch --> sunshine --> re-equip mh weapon. Or shield-->reso-->/shield. Clearly, this breaks the rule of one action per click. But, as opposed to something like an autoclicker that breaks the spirit of the game, it seems to be more quality of life. The person is still actively engaging with the game, timing the switch, etc. They just use a keybind to make it slightly less clunky. Can they lose their account for doing this?

The underlying root cause of this whole thing is the lack of an in-game macro creator, which is a pretty standard MMO offering. It is important to know what is allowable versus bannable if PvMers want to bridge that functionality gap.

So, TL;DR: Jagex, can you please provide an official stance on PvM macros?

Petition to canonize Saint Shauny, patron saint of passionate game players

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:51 PM PST

We have God Stu. What this world needs now is a Saint Shauny, patron saint of passionate game players. His last (thus far) and greatest legacy to us has been his time at Jagex. Even after he has moved to the Great Beyond he is still making meaningful game-related content for us. He embodies what every passionate RS player is deep down, and I'd be darn proud to be his emissary.

An upvote for this thread is an upvote for passionate RS players everywhere.

    This b 4 u, Saint Shauny.

I think mage needs some love.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 07:24 AM PST

In Shauny's interview with Mod Pi, the status of mage combat was brought up along with some interesting valid points. Compared to melee and ranged, basic mage without 4taa as it is, isn't all that interesting. Melee has the mutated abilities and a clear preference to a more mobile and active combat style with barge and bladed dive. Ranged has the various bolt effects as well as a mutated dazing shot. Mage on the other hand is very simple and has little variation. While there is 4taa and ancient spells, these don't really change how mage combat works. I personally don't use 4taa as I'm not really a fan of the high input aspect of it and I'm sure many others feel the same way. However even with 4taa, mage rotations are still uninteresting; therefore I think mage needs some love to refresh and make the skill more interesting.

edit: just wanted to add that while 4taa requires more mechanical skill to do more dps, mage combat still remains uninteresting. mage rotations are pretty stagnant and require little thinking or creativity. I believe that 4taa is holding back the skill and additions of mutated abilities etc. due to balancing issues.

Make salt the wound worth it to unlock its been out for years and no one utilizes it in group pvm

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 12:57 PM PST

i dont care what you say its not being used in group pvm like its intended use. no one uses it. ive been on hundreds of raid teams with 2+ bow campers and they dont even have it unlocked because it is just straight not worth it because the effects are so miniscule that they dont consider it worth unlocking. mod pi even acknowledged puncture was a failure in his stream with shauny yesterday.

my idea personally is that for each puncture stack salt the wound takes less adrenaline. 1 stack = 1% less adrenaline meaning if you could keep the stacks at 10 then you would be using salt the wound for significantly less adrenaline (obviously still has the rules of a threshold though aka need 50% bar.)

before you comment me how "good" it is tell me when the last time youve been on a team that didnt have this ability coordinated specifically and you actually saw 10 consistant puncture stacks. because maybe ive just been unlucky for 100s of times? its probably just a coincidence im sure.

    also add multi ammo quiver

Okay, so I need some help.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 04:46 PM PST

Recently, I discovered I had been playing on legacy mode. I'm an old school player, who recently got back into the game. Anyway, I switched over to the new combat system, and all was fine. But I went to do a barrows run, which is normally simple when I was legacy, but I went to fight linza and I almost died!! Like I have no idea what's going on. I switch back to legacy mode to conclude my theory, and I destroyed linza in seconds. Why is there such a huge gap between, legacy and the new combat styles? What am I missing? How do I use the combat system effectively to kill linza easily like I know I am more than capable of doing.

    More flash mobs?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 11:36 AM PST

How about just adding something like demon flash mobs, where empowered bosses or monsters can spawn around the game world and people can go take them on. It doesn't have to be good money per hour, just something that people can do for fun and a lot turn up for a chance at something special.

You could have mini world events like god wars generals popping up with improved stats, or a portal that opens up and sends revenants to roam around runescape and people go to hunt them. Would be great fun, and can add to the lore of the game.
