    Client Crashes: Investigations & Updates

    Hey all,

    We've been made aware that some players are experiencing crashes, often involving flickering models/textures and/or opening interfaces, following today's update.

    We're currently looking at the cause of the crashes as a priority and we'll keep you updated with any news as we have it.If you're experiencing these crashes, we would appreciate it if you could share what type of graphics card you are using to help our investigations.

    Thanks for your help and patience while we get this sorted.

    Update 13:43 Game Time

    For some users disabling "Depth of Field" & "Ambient Occlusion" helps as a temporary solution, this does not seem to be a one size fits all solution and the root issue does not lie there either. We are continuing our investigations and once we know more we'll communicate this.

    Update 14:34 Game Time

    We hope to have more news regarding the client crashes and what we're doing near the end of the day. We've currently identified one part of the issues that are causing crashes and working on a fix for this. We've also added the engine-related patch notes to the news post.

    Update 14:45 Game Time

    We're greatly appreciating everyone sharing their graphics card with us, it's very helpful. we've also seen the various messages about people experiencing significant FPS drops, this is something that we're investigating too.

    Update 19:45 Game Time

    We're expecting to release a fix for the client crash tomorrow. in the mean time we have found some extra techniques that might reduce the likelihood of a crash. Turning off the following settings might yield a positive results:

    • Disable depth of field
    • Disable ambient occlusion
    • Disable bloom
    • Disable shadows
    • Disable anti-aliasing
    • Set water detail to low
    • Hide any 3d UI elements (character inspection, treasure hunter chest, etc)

    Tooltips Feedback: Missing and Misleading info Corrections

    First up: Cooldown times are still inaccurate; they use whole second values instead of being precise on-tick. For example, "Snipe"'s cooldown still says "10s" which is not divisible by 0.6 seconds. It should be "10.2s"

    Here is a list of tooltips which I believe are misleading or inaccurate, and how I would fix them:

    Aggression

    • What it says:

    Force up to 8 enemies within 5 tiles to attack you.

    • What's wrong: This tooltip reads like it's an AoE version of "Provoke" -- It is not. Unlike "Provoke", "Aggression" only works if the enemies affected do not already have a target.
    • Suggested replacement:

    Force up to 8 enemies within 5 tiles to attack you if they are not already in combat.

    Revenge

    • What it says:

    Each attack dealt to you increases your max hit by 10%

    • What's wrong: This tooltip implies that your max hit will be 10% higher per stack of Revenge, which is misleading. The %Bonus only affects the difference between the max hit and the min hit. Say for example you cast "Tsunami" (which normally deals 200%-300% AD) with 1 stack of revenge. You'd expect to deal 200%-330% AD since 300% x 1.1 = 330%, right? Wrong. Instead you get 200%-310%, because it only multiplies the 100% of randomly rolled damage between the original 200%-300% damage range.
    • Suggested replacement:

    Each attack dealt to you increases your max hit by 10% of the difference between your current attack's minimum and maximum hits.

    Wild Magic

    • What it says:

    50%-165% ability damage on the first hit.

    Secondary hit of 50%-215% ability damage.

    • What's wrong: The first hit damage is just wrong. Both hits deal 50%-215% AD. They don't have different max hits.
    • Suggested replacement:

    50%-215% ability damage on both hits.

    Greater Dazing Shot

    • What it says:

    Apply a stack of puncture to the target that deals 8%-10% ability damage every for 9s

    • What's wrong: three things:
      1. The damage is wrong. If wiki is to be believed, it's 5.8%-7.2% per puncture stack.
      2. This tooltip seems to simply be incomplete. It's missing the time interval between each puncture hit.
      3. There's no mention of how the bleed starts strong and gets weaker over its 4 hits.
    • Suggested replacement:

    Apply a stack of puncture to the target that deals 5.8%-7.2% ability damage as a damage-over-time of 4 hits every 1.8s over 9s, distributed as 7/15, 5/15, 2/15, and 1/15 of the total, respectively.

    It wouldn't have to be so wordy if you guys didn't make this ability so pointlessly complex. Blame whoever worked on Shattered Worlds.

    Salt the Wound

    • What it says:

    Deal an additional 18% ability damage for each stack of puncture on target.

    • What's wrong: There is no mention of how this affects the minimum hit, which misleadingly implies that it flatly adds 18% ability damage per puncture stack.
    • Suggested replacement:

    Deal an additional 3.6%-18% ability damage for each stack of puncture on target.

    Dismember, Combust, Fragmentation shot, Slaughter

    • What's wrong: There is no mention of these abilities' abnormally high chance to deal minimum damage, which misleadingly implies it's an even distribution roll.
    • Suggested new line in the tooltips:

    100/188 chance that each hit will deal minimum damage. [dismember, combust, fragmentation shot]

    100/250 chance that each hit will deal minimum damage. [slaughter]

    Frenzy, Unload

    • What they say:

    380%-840% total ability damage over 4.8s in 4 hits.

    • What's wrong: two things:
      1. The duration is wrong. They It's 4.2s, not 4.8s.
      2. There is no mention of how these abilities start weak and grow stronger with each hit.
    • Suggested replacement:

    380%-840% total ability damage over 4.2s in 4 hits.

    • Suggested new line in the tooltip:

    Hits deal 80%-180% ability damage, increasing by 10%-20% ability damage with each hit.

    Assault

    • What it says:

    172%-876% total ability damage over 5.4s in 4 hits.

    • What's wrong: The duration is wrong. It's 4.2s, not 5.4s.
      • Even if you're trying to make the tooltip go by the timing of the hitsplats, this tooltip would have to somehow be different for 2-handed weapons because the last hitsplat comes out at 5.4s for dual-wield and 4.8s for 2-hand. Just do everyone a favor and make it say 4.2s because that's how long you actually have to channel it to do full damage.
    • Suggested replacement:

    172%-876% total ability damage over 4.2s in 4 hits.

    Flurry, Greater Flurry

    • What it says:

    75%-376% total ability damage over 3.6s in 4 hits.

    • What's wrong: The duration is wrong. It's 4.2s, not 3.6s.
    • Suggested replacement:

    75%-376% total ability damage over 4.2s in 4 hits.

    Greater Barge

    • What it says:

    If it has been 4.8s since your last attack, gain an additional bonus which will turn your next channeled ability into a damage over time attack.

    • What's wrong: three things:
      1. It doesn't mention that your next channeled ability has to be a melee channeled ability
      2. There's no mention of how long this additional bonus lasts. (6s)
      3. It doesn't detail how damage-over-time attacks of this sort are compatible with "Berserk", unlike other damage-over-time attacks.
    • Suggested replacement:

    If it has been 4.8s since your last attack, gain an additional bonus which will turn your next melee channeled ability into a damage over time attack.

    • Suggested new lines in the tooltip

    Bonus duration: 6s

    Channeled ability damage-over-time attacks may be affected by "Berserk"

    Sunshine, Death's Swiftness, and Berserk

    • What's wrong: There is no mention of the fact that these abilities do not affect damage-over-time effects. This implies that they work the same as "Metamorphosis" -- they do not.
    • Suggested new line in the tooltips:

    Does not affect damage-over-time effects.

    Incendiary Shot

    • What's wrong: There is no mention of the fact that this ability is incompatible with Death's Swiftness.
    • Suggested new line in the tooltip:

    Unaffected by "Death's Swiftness"

    Game completely unplayable - Client crashes after today's update

    After today's update, I am no longer able to load and play the game on any graphical setting using both the regular and the Steam client. I am however able to play on the mobile client but that doesn't help the fact that today I was planning on grinding out some bosses, which I don't feel comfortable doing on mobile as I mostly use it for afk stuff or farm runs/daily stuff. Whenever I load the client, it'll either freeze before I'm even able to log in or freeze after I've logged into a world. PLEASE fix this :(
