I lived in the states since 2003 and playing runescape on and off. Can consider me a veteran. I got deported back to my home country russia, lost my father and mother to alcohol while I was locked up waiting to get deported. I lost my wife, my house, my cars, motorcycle, etc. Through out all this time, runecape has pulled me through. Thank you to you and all of the players that played with me. I honestly couldn't be more grateful for a game.

[Lore] Theory on Raksha, Kerapac, Shadow Anima, and Xau-Tak (Spoiler warning)

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 01:27 PM PDT

My apologies if this is too elementary or obvious at this point. I just finished collecting the Orthen lore, and I made some of the same connections I've seen floating around here. Spoilers below!

    My summary:

The Dragonkin arrived to Anachronia and constructed Orthen before the Curse from the Elder Gods, but after the dinosaurs were already there. There, they encountered one Rex, Raksha, who was all black rather than colorful and exhibited mysteriously increased intelligence, even what seemed like telepathic powers.

Kranon (aka the Ambassador, a former Syrtes Dragonkin), Skeka (an Aughra Dragonkin who was clearly a stoner but also a brilliant but ethical scientist), and Kerapac (the equally brilliant but not-so-ethical Dactyl Dragonkin) all took a fascination with Raksha and studied it in various ways:

    • Kerapac, who had already begun genetically grafting dinosaurs together to create protoype Dragons, was interested in this mysterious force's ability to transform an "ordinary rex" into something intelligent and powerful. He wanted to replicate this.
    • Skeka was fascinated by Raksha's ability to project thoughts onto others. Along with her students, who were often thought of as cult-like followers by others, she attempted to replicate this ability.
    • Kranon isn't mentioned much about this save that he knew about Raksha and was interested.

Then, at some point shortly after all of this, Kerapac managed to piss off the Elder Gods of Gielinor by playing around with "Shadow Anima", a substance sort of like the anti-matter of anima and therefore toxic to the Gods. The Dragonkin became enslaved to the Stone of Jas and subjected to endless, tortuous pain. They all sought to escape from this pain, again in various ways.

    • Kerapac turned to science, still convinced his experiments could solve all his problens.
    • Kranon turned to spirituality. He found the island of Horrors, and pursued what they worshipped. In the end, he gave himself over to the anti-Deity Xau-Tak and became the eldritch horror known as the Ambassador.
    • Skeka attempted to use her device to permanently project her consciousness into the creature Raksha

    My analysis:

As many others have pointed out, Raksha shares many motifs with other creatures known to be under Xau-Tak's influence, such as Seiryu and Black Stone Dragon. It seems likely that Raksha was a Rex who got caught up by this anti-deity.

My theory is that Shadow Anima is, precisely, Xau-Tak's essence. It is the force that corrupted Raksha. By studying it and trying to harness it (with moderate success), Kerapac pissed off the Elder Gods and brought on the Curse. During Desperate Measures, he tries to finish his work by pumping out Shadow Anima to kill the Elder Gods.

However, the Elder Gods know that their anima is keeping Xau-Tak at bay, and that Shadow Anima weakens their ability to do so. Their entire threat to "reset" Gielinor is because this Shadow is growing and paving the way for Xau-Tak. Their power to restrain it is waning because of this. Their last defense against this happening is a complete wipe. Erase all dark forces, all followers of Xau-Tak, and all remnants of the things creating Shadow Anima. I think this is going to be the continuing plot of the Elder God storyline.

Raksha is likely the thing chained up in Xolo City, and will probably be a new boss. My guess is the fight will be a mix of Seiryu/Black Stone Dragon and Solak, where the Rex's body, Xau-Tak's shadowy influence, and Skeka's mind are all at war.

    Let me know your thoughts!
