RuneScape Rant Wednesday - 04 December

    Rant Wednesday - 04 December

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 04:08 PM PST

Rant Wednesday is a monthly thread for exactly what you might think it's for. Rant, vent, complain, comment, speak your mind and air your grievances with anything concerning RuneScape, Jagex, or even the subreddit itself! This is your time to get whatever you want off your chest, so make it count!

You might find that having constructive elements to your comment be received and embraced better by others, but it is by no means required. Think of "keep it constructive" more as a suggestion, than a requirement. The only real requirement is that you follow our subreddit rules, which includes no personal attacks, personally identifiable information, harassement, or anything that can be reasonably considered excessive.

Have fun, and (try to) play nice!

    TL;DW 465 - December Month Ahead

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:46 AM PST

    Twitch VOD

    • 16 December is the last update of the year.
    • Java client shuts down on 18 December.
    • Smooth movement releases next week.
    • Stormguard Archaeology Journal
      • Will be run-down because history has not been kind to it, so don't expect it to look pristine.
      • Site is based at the Temple of Ikov.
      • Invention based content.
      • Hopefully some steps towards Rite of Passage.

    Daily Challenges Rework

    • 16 December.
    • Will try to release a blog about this.
    • Some of them are tedious.
    • A few are very popular such as Dungeoneering.
    • We've attempted to generalise the challenges. Instead of cook 25 Summer Pies, it'll be cook whatever you want 25 times.
    • No longer need to hand in what you make for the challenge.
    • Challenge Mysery Bags removed.
    • New interface
    • Claim rewards button so no need to go to the Burthorpe etc to complete challenges.
    • Gives XP directly from the interface, combat challenges will reward a lamp (because of pures).
    • All challenges will now give the equivalent of a huge XP lamp including Dungeoneering (68.8k XP at level 98+)

    Pets

    Q&A

    • We are looking to do post-release updates for Farming and Herblore.
    • We are waiting for DXPW data and will show it on stream:
      • 31,800 accounts achieved a 99 or 120.
      • 1,300 were 120 Herblore.
      • 460 were 120 Farming.
      • We've received a lot of positive feedback about this style of DXPW and we will be looking to do more things that encourage a more healthier style of gaming. More info on duty of care next week.
    • We're looking to do more surveys in 2020.
    • No plans to do Winter Weekends this year but there is the bonfire event on 2 January.
    • Stone spirits are missing a few numbers then it should be ready.
    • After Archaeology we would like to focus on things like PvM Hub.
    • We are looking at making a neat solution for Nightshade.
    • No plans for boss timers for KQ and Corp but it is possible to do.
    • Dead clicks are being looked at.
    • More Farming and Herblore achievements? Yes there are a couple planned.
    • Will not be adding Ravensworn achievements.
    • We may give Prehistoric Potterington a home, if we do we are more likely to not make it constructable.
    • Baby dinosaur pet? Potentially, but Reddit has recently told us they don't want more pets.
    • We would love to do a Farming tick rework but it's a huge job.
    • Does Powerbust of Sorcery fill urns faster? It doesn't give more XP so no.
    • Seed storage has technical limitations but Mod Helen is looking into long-term solutions.

I'm surprised that there is nowhere to buy farming tools in the Farming Guild

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 12:18 PM PST

Things Like Rakes, Spades, Buckets, Compost, Plant Pots, ect.

The Manor Farm still just feels more like a glorified Farming Hub than an actual Farming Guild. All of the teleports even call it the Manor Farm rather than Farming Guild.

Unpopular Opinion: Stop using "Because Ironmen" or "What about Ironmen" as a reason not to change something

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 02:17 PM PST

Making this post because of the reaction to the Daily changes but it seems to come up on a near-weekly basis.

Y'all chose this style of play as the harder option, deal with it.

Can we get a better source of Nightshade with the Farming update?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:03 AM PST

This has probably been brought up already, but Jagex could use all the reminders they can get, considering that Nightshade has been static for over a decade.

Realistically, the only practical way to harvest nightshade is to pick up respawning drops, which is just cancerous. Now that weapon poison is starting to be used in newer potions, there absolutely needs to be a better way to gather them. Let us plant the in bush patches or something--I dunno. Just make it practical to actually produce them by farming.

I do understand that updating Nightshade would lower the value of weapon poison and all its products in general, but that is honestly a sacrifice that needs to be made.

Also, make them tradeable. If you have to, make it so that you can't eat them, but just make them tradeable finally.

Dark Flame Sword Still Does Not Have the Flame.

It takes 57m farming XP to use the "Apprentice Farmer" farming guild perk earned after 40,000 XP.

supplemental to the improved movement update, can we get a QOL fix for bladed dive?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 11:34 AM PST

it's pretty frustrating to line up a dive and assume it's gone through only to see the dreaded "you can't dive through something you can't walk through" message, especially in cases where it should be obvious to everyone that what you really wanted was to move to that general area, that frequently the specific tile that's preventing the dive isn't particularly important and more often than not, it's down to an unnecessary piece of foliage or scenery you have no interest in which prevented it in the first place.

i'd like to suggest a qol change for bladed dive, perhaps with a toggle, to implement a "nearest viable tile" approach when attempting to dive on a tile that's considered invalid such that a "close enough" dive is executed rather than the dive being prevented entirely. something similar is already done when attempting to dive outside the maximum range of the ability and it's definitely a smoother approach than preventing the dive altogether.

tl;dr if a dive fails because you attempt to dive to an invalid tile, let us dive to the nearest viable tile instead of the specific tile preventing the movement

    Super Rewards Shutdown

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:48 PM PST

It seems weird that skills with tons of uses already get 120s while skills with almost zero use, like construction, get nothing for years

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 07:50 PM PST

Construction is almost 99% useless, has the most mindnumbing way to train it, has a built-in cash sink, and has no reason to ever level it up beyond the portal room aside from max cape, and it gets zero updates, or attention. Then for some reason two of the most useful skills, herblore being arguably one of the most important, if not the most important non-combat skills, gets 120s.

PSA: Reminder that stone spirits make mining super afk with a perfect juju pot

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 12:59 PM PST

Perfect juju mining pot refreshes your stamina every time you use a stone spirit, so bringing stone spirits with you makes mining pretty much pre-nerf AFK, if not better.

I know stone spirits are a meme, but they do have a couple of niche uses for those unaware.

    Is it worth coming back?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 01:47 PM PST

    Hey y'all!

Hope y'all are doing well today. I'll keep it short and sweet and to the point. I've been playing RS since I was 7 yrs old or so. My account on what is now RS3 has a 17 or so 99's, decent bank etc... my OSRS account is low on skills that are not combat oriented. Last time I played the game was 2013. For some reason I've gotten a weird runescape itch and I'm just not sure which I want to play.

I find the fact that RS3 has increased skills to 120 for a lot of skills overwhelming. I don't really understand the combat either. OSRS seems to have a lot going on as well and so I guess i'm just overwhelmed in general in which one I should pick.

Any help or recommendations would be fantastic, have a great rest of your day guys.

    Best,

    John

    Giant Mole Growth Potion

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 09:13 AM PST

Could this be changed into say, an animal growth potion? Provides 10% animal age per dose? I'd say since the magic growth juice sort of killed this drop's utility this would be a decent replacement with no foreseeable consequences.
