One of the worst MTX betrayals, we were robbed of an actual Vorago boss pet.

It's clear to me that Mod MTX has been behind the rampant MTX for a while

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 05:09 AM PST

I had high hopes for the MTX live stream. I for a while have been posting on threads and asking the community to have realistic expectations and idea when it comes to MTX. MTX has become a part of Runescape and unfortunately it's not going away although I believe it can be changed to be much less detrimental to the game. To my gladness a lot of the questions asked during the live stream were very realistic suggestions, making the game better while still maintaining Jagex's profits.

The only problem was Mod MTX. I remember a question being asked about removing lamps and replacing them with stars. To me this is a great change and must happen for the game to step back from MTX ridiculousness. According to Mod MTX they cannot do that because players look for faster progression and they value their time. I agree with he premise but what does he think stars do. They literally let you level faster, they have almost the same outcome as lamps except they make you play the game! This is guy has proved to be unwilling to make any large changes to Treasure hunter and its sad. The community banded together, coming up with realistic and helpful idea and he spit in our face. I'm not angry I'm just upset that a developer is unable or unwilling to see the damage lamps have done and isn't looking for other opportunities.

Guess I'm sticking to OSRS for now. What a shame.

Being a Jmod must be the worst.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 01:54 AM PST

Imagine growing up playing runescape since you were 11, you even love it so much you work really hard and get a CompSci degree accumulating a large amount of debt, and one day you finally get your dream job at Jagex, move to one of the most expensive places in England while also getting a sub par salary.

Then it turns out your job now is to wake up, go to work and make the game you love worse.

It got so bad that most people don't even notice one of the worst part of it...

F2P players can buy keys. They cannot use part of the rewards they can obtain with keys.

Let me reiterate: F2P players are allowed to spend real money on the game, but can then not use the things they bought with real money unless they spend more money on top of that for a subscription.

Even worse, the reward will then clutter their inventory, actively making their game experience worse, unless they subscribe or destroy an item they acquired with real money...

[Edit: I am talking about large and huge stars and lamps here, not resources, in case that wasn't clear]

How is this even legal? Is it legal?

The solutions are so simple too: either disable buying keys for F2P players or don't let them get rewards that cannot be used by them (you know since they paid real money for them). Maybe there's other satifsying solutions as well, but either of those would already do the trick from an ethical point of view.

What excuse does Jagex even have for not doing these except for "MaYbE wE'd MaKe LeSs MoNeY"?! There are things in SGS free players cannot buy for the explicit reason that they cannot use them on a F2P world, why is TH allowed an exception to this rule?

Monetisation Polls Based on Feedback From Mod Cam

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:15 PM PST

Hey everyone, so given the recent uproar Jagex has been looking for alternative solutions to the current monetisation scheme. I'm putting together a few polls based on feedback to what Jagex is actually considering/needs to consider as provided by Mod Cam on my previous post.

    1. On the assumption that Jagex has to in some way shape or form provide a method for players to progress more quickly with money for those with less time to play would it be an acceptable compromise if BXP/XP would be provided in far less impactful amounts at higher levels and more at lower levels? This would mean that stars/lamps at lower levels would provide more xp/bxp relative to what they do now but as you get closer to 99s in skills they would provide significantly less bxp/xp compared to the current amount, say 25-30% as a placeholder value relative to current at level 90 and 20% of current at 99. Lamps would still be far less efficient. This would heavily limit any and all future effect on hiscores by making buying keys or any bxp/xp source outright inefficient by any definition but still allow players to speed up the early game to reach quests/later game content while making outright buying 99/120 very very costly. In order to limit any manipulation of this, xp/bxp provided would be decided based on level obtained after using all current bxp the player has.
      Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907163

    2. Are promos that increase the amount of xp/bxp provided acceptable under the scenario mentioned in 1 such as the various lamp promos?
      Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907268

    3. Would TH be more acceptable if there were no more promos such as shadow gems that provided GP (on the assumption TH isn't killed off due to legislation)?
      Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907287

    4. Would TH be more acceptable if any shadow/lucky forms of items were 100% cosmetic overrides and did not have stats (example: shadow virtus as a cosmetic override)?
      Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907336

    5. If future promos were more focused on cosmetics such as Catwalk: The Meowsketeer but with an alternative option to outright buy the full cosmetic (Jagex has stated they cannot at this time sell individual parts of the set due to system limitations) would TH be more acceptable?
      Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907515

    6. If an option were provided to directly buy the cosmetics in addition to getting pieces off TH how much would you find it reasonable to price a cosmetic? (assuming a full cosmetic set, a set of weapons, etc. The store currently cannot tell which pieces you have obtained from TH if they were to be sold on Solomon's but potentially could in the future)
      Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907430

    7. Edit: Additional poll, would TH be far more acceptable if ONLY BXP were to be offered on it or through whatever may replace it if the gambling aspect must be removed?Strawpoll Link: https://www.strawpoll.me/18907835

There will be followup polls if there is enough interest and/or suggestions based on these
Edit: added poll 7 also IF YOUR ISSUE IS WITH THE GAMBLING ASPECT PLEASE SAY SO IN COMMENTS BELOW

How newbie friendly is Runescape? This is an MMO I never played and I’ve damn near done them all since ‘98.

Add Bank Tab Value to Bank

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:02 PM PST

Would be super useful to see how much a tab is worth in your bank. For example loot tabs, herb, pots, etc.
