Silly Question Sunday - 23 August

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:10 PM PDT

Silly Question Sunday is a bi-weekly thread in which you can ask your RuneScape-related questions, including:

    • "Newb" questions from new players
    • Questions from returning players
    • Silly or nonsensical questions
    • Questions you feel stupid asking elsewhere

Of course, a question thread wouldn't make much sense without answers, so please help out with any answers that you have!

If TMW was dyeable (minus barrows because I forgot)

    Did some digital recoloring

Background is transparent btw so some colors might be easier to see depending on day/night reddit mode.

Edit: added some texture to shadow and blood trims so that they're not totally flat

Edit2: changed some colors to improve visibility

Edit3: made the limbs and stuff for the shadow and blood sets have the see-through effect, easier to see if on white background

Can we please stop making fish the only food that matters?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:20 PM PDT

There is so much variety to the things we can make with cooking but literally none of it is worth the time other than fish. There are recipes that require an absurd amount of time to make and they simply aren't worth it because you can get better healing with a shark or sailfish. Blubbers also outclass all multibite food because they can be eaten on the same tick as another food without losing adrenaline.

Lets use cheesecakes an an example. It has a quest and guild requirement to access and has an absurdly long process because you need to make several churned products, which is the slowest production tick other than protean items. You need biscuits made with butter and flour, cream cheese, pot of cream, and if you want it to heal more you also need another ingredient on top of that like strawberries or bacon.

The result? an item that at best heals 500LP and 10% of your prayer points per bite. In theory that is fantastic because it's 1500LP and 297 prayer in a single slot. However, because it cannot be used for tick eating, it's not worth the long complicated process. It is also a prayer restoring item that loses adrenaline, which is not a good trade off at all.

Brewing ale has also been pointless for a very long time despite taking a full day to produce and mature ales not being a guarantee unless you participate in a dead minigame.

TL;DR it would be nice if the effort put into a recipe was reflected in the result

Edit: that last paragraph wasn't specific enough and confused people into thinking I meant brews from herblore. Sorry about that, I specified ale now.

There has been a lot of discussion in here and i'm really happy about that! I like when people come together to discuss their concerns. So I want to list a few concerns/suggestions people made so that in the case Jagex looks over this at some point, the information is easy to see.

    • Many players are concerned that it may devalue fishing, as its entire use as a skill is to provide food. A careful balance would need to be made to ensure that fish retain their value in some way.
    • Some have said that multiple servings are not enough to provide interest, as shown by the primal feast remaining a very rarely used item.
    • perhaps having small passive effects such as buffs that effect skilling could be something to play around with.
    • I personally suggested the idea of comfort foods that, like blubbers currently, do not reduce adrenaline to consume, or at least consume less than the majority of foods. This would require some rebalancing of healing, however.
    • Making more foods work similarly to sushi where you get over time restoration / buffing, but are unable to consume another for some time.
    • Introducing more hunter/slayer obtained foods that have special benefits but don't necessarily outclass fish
    • Keeping fish valuable by introducing species like pufferfish that are naturally complicated to prepare so that it fits the bill of having more complex recipes, but still supports the fishing skill.
    • Some have suggested foods that require more preparation should give much more EXP while other claim fish should give the best EXP while prepared foods have better healing. It's a bit of a toss up.
    • Making gourmet recipes that work similar to extreme potions. Cannot be traded or assisted. This gives more value to cooking as a skill and fish would remain the most convenient food to obtain while those with the skill to make a gourmet meal would get more benefits.

Daily reminder that just >>1<< bank preset costs 20 dollars...

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:41 PM PDT

Jagex...Why so greedy?? It's a bank preset ffs. It's seriously robbery, even if you can buy it with ingame currency, bonds still costs money. So it is 20 dollars no matter what. What about loyalty points? Are you guys really making 2 million dollars off bank presets every year that you can't let us buy those with loyalty points atleast?

    Rant about elite clues

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 12:14 AM PDT

Elite clues, are the dullest and most tedious clues to do, here is why. This tier of clues effectivelly has only two different clue steps, scans and arrows, both of which end up in either a wizard fight or a puzzlebox. This part is fine, both clue steps are challanging in its own way and work well when looked at individually. Looking at the clue as a whole this is not enough variety, as every step of the clue can end up being a puzzle, which can require between 10 (knot) and 100+ (puzzle box) clicks to solve. In a long run this becomes really dull and repetative and the puzzles wilt away your willingness to do clues way more than in other clues.

All other clues have at least 4 different clue steps, making them more varied. So im wondering, why do elites only have 2 different clue steps?

Can t92 armor get a proper set effect since we are getting power creep?

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 01:57 AM PDT

T92 ranged/magic has no set effect because apparently it's too hard to think of an effect that doesn't "break" the game or make too much dps. Could have easily done changes such as when you debuff, apply 2-3 debuffs at once (omni debuff), or make debuffs last 2 minutes (mage).

For ranged they could have made puncture stacks last 2-3 game ticks longer, or rapid fire also stuns the target (PvE only) or snipe is instantly shot out.

Trimmed master work also got a set effect fitting for tank armor, and the reasoning was "there is too much dps in the game, we can't give it a dps effect and had to give it utility". Players were mad about this and jagex just said "yeah, it's a rough spot but there is too much dps".

Now we are getting so much powercreep with ancient invention, ripper demons, kalg demons, elder overloads, weapon poison +++, relics (1% adren basic, 10% ult, berserkers fury), inquisitors staff, incense sticks, power bursts of hp/summoning and recently the new alch hydrix amulet which makes specials hit like a truck, along with +12 higher stats and the reaper effect ontop of souls.

And you are telling me we couldn't get a proper set effect on TMW, and a set effect for t92 ranged/magic, because "there is too much dps" and then all this new content gets so much dps added to it it makes the old buffs that were suggested for the armor (increased deathswiftness/sunshine damage) look balanced.

Just saying. Jagex should revisist t92 armors and give a proper effect to make upgrades feel more impactful and get players excited. I just don't like the hypocrisy regarding t92 armors as clearly they have no trouble adding a boat load of dps in the game. Give them a proper set effect fitting for dps armor.

Replace all stone spirit drops from High Level Bosses with 1-2 Pieces of Medium bladed Orikalkum Salvage

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 02:56 AM PDT

    https://runescape.wiki/w/Medium_bladed_orikalkum_salvage

High level Bosses could drop them in varying quantities (2-4 for Nex, Rax, Kalphite King and 5-10 in Telos particular case). While the rest of the bosses GWD2, Corp beast, QBD, could drop 1-2 of them. Low level bosses like KBD, Mole, GWD1 remain unchanged.

As things currently stand, the only way to get that salvage is by opening the Raptor's chest, and since the key drops in 4 parts and each part is a rare drop from a relatively high level slayer mob, there's not that many circulating in the game.

They have a really good High Alch Value, and Base Parts are always welcome. Just 1 piece of salvage is already better than any kind of stone Spirit.

Sure, this would still be a "Bad/Filler" drop, but at least is more useful than stone spirits (even at their settled prices).

I just need a proper phase practice for P5. I don't want to slog through P1-P4 over and over for a minute of P5..
