This is why we can't have nice things

    2016 was a great year!

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 10:17 AM PDT

    This is my opinion but:

In terms of the quality, quantity, and diversity of updates that were released in 2016 it surpasses any other year since RS3 was launched. This is the type of year I would love to see again. Every single player category (Skiller, PvMer, Quester, Pker, F2P) received a significant amount of content.

Update sizes are based on my opinion.

    Patch Notes

There were around 2,500 patch notes in 2016, making it have the 3rd most patch notes in a single year. This was despite there only being 1 Patch week per month on average. Also, the patches weren't all typo fixes or small things. A considerable amount were Ninja improvements.

    Ninja Improvements/Fixes

This is nowhere near all of them. Just the ones I spent the time to grab and format to be viewed. And these are only Ninja changes.

    Activities

    • Removing a replica statue of Dahmaroc from a player-owned house study room no longer resets progress on the statue.
    • The Rat Pits activity and area have been removed from the game.
    • Various usability fixes have been made for Temple Trekking
    • A right-click option has been added on Pikkupstix to find obelisks Familiarisation.

    Bank

    • Keybinds 3, 4 and 5 now work in deposit boxes for depositing backpack, equipped items and beast of burden respectively, as with banks.
    • The Gem bag and Gem bag upgrade now have an Empty option usable from the inventory in the Bank interface which deposits all stored gems directly to the bank.
    • Added a new bank chest to the Blast Furnace.
    • A right-click option has been added to the coal bag while using the bank to directly empty its contents.
    • The options menu for the quick-loadouts interface has been slightly reworked.

    Clans

    • Anagogic orts have been given virtual storage!
    • Clan avatars are now summoned for up to 23 hours to match the maximum login session length, unless dismissed manually.
    • The 7 day wait between joining a new clan has been removed.

    Clues

    • Scan clues now open in a new window and will automatically scan while that window is open.
    • Scan and Compass clue interfaces now close automatically when you have completed them.
    • Both Scan and Compass clue interfaces now have a shortcut button to dig when you are in the right spot.
    • The Skull Sceptre from the Stronghold of Security no longer uses or requires charges.
    • Uri will now appear immediately after the double agent is killed, regardless of changing into incorrect gear for the clue. You'll still need to switch back to claim your next clue.

    Combat

    • The frozen key now holds up to 100 charges, instead of 10.
    • Incendiary shot now deals damage in a 3x3 area.
    • Improved respawn rates for various NPCs (Slayer creatures, Bosses).
    • Smoke Tendrils no longer require the target to stay still.
    • Combat XP selection can now be toggled by individual skills. Notably, this means players can now train Attack and Strength together without Defence. However, players may not deselect every skill option.
    • The Fight Kiln entrance now has a right-click option to toggle skipping the cutscenes.
    • The Momentum combat mode has been removed due to its incredibly low usage rate. Players currently in Momentum will be switched to Legacy combat mode upon login.
    • Made changes to rune dragons' phase transitions to allow players to continue attacking throughout. Damage that overshoots the lifepoint thresholds will no longer be healed back, but that hit, and hits during transition, are reduced to 10% power.
    • Increased legacy damage modifier from 2.1 to 2.3 in PvM, causing greater damage in legacy combat mode. We've made these changes to account for increases in potential in EoC since Legacy's release.
    • Vorago's teamsplit colours have changed to red and blue to improve visibility for colourblind players.
    • Weapon drops from wyverns, ripper demons, camel warriors and Acheron mammoths now have a greater chance of being dropped during a Slayer assignment.
    • There is now an icon on the buff bar showing how cold the player is inside the wyverns' cavern.
    • Raptor Slayer mobs have received various changes.

    Milestone Capes

    • Players can now drop below 1250 in Conquest without losing the Trimmed Completionist cape requirement.
    • Swapped the "Customise" and "Max Guild" options on Max cape, allowing players to teleport to the Max Guild via the actionbar.
    • Reshuffled the completionist cape's worn options, placing Max Guild at the top.

    PvP

    • Degradable items are now dropped in the Wilderness with their charges intact.

    Quests

    • Various quest bosses (across 18 quests) and dominion tower bosses have been rebalanced.
    • The One Piercing Note quest is now available to free players!
    • The World Wakes's combat level requirement is now a recommendation, rather than a requirement.

    • Player-owned house bookcases now have a 'search' option.
    • Success chances on traps & obstacles in the Underground Pass have been increased.

    • There is now an option to reset the Normal and Hard mode boss kill times on the Beasts interface.
    • Players can now toggle the retro cosmetic look of their skillcapes in the Miscellaneous interface in the Game Settings window."
    • Players can now enable an option in the Miscellaneous settings interface in the Game Settings window to automatically teleport urns to Ernie when they are filled. This option also enables auto-studying the Invention skill accumulators.
    • Players can now adjust a setting in the Interface Options that will allow for a fixed amount of columns in the Backpack interface.
    • The Hero, Adventures & Powers parent interfaces can now be kept open during combat.

    • Players can now sort their friends list/friends chat by alphabet or rank.
    • Players can now search their friends list and friends chat list by full or partial name matches.

    Systems

    • Players now have a few minutes' grace period when logging out where they won't be prompted for their bank pin upon logging back in, including when switching worlds.
    • Increased Grand Exchange buy limit of Divination energies from 5,000 to 25,000.
    • Keybinds have been added to various functions on the loot interface.

    • All Dungeoneering skinweaver familiars have had their scroll healing substantially increased.

    Farming

    • Tool leprachauns now agree to automatically fertilise your Farming patches, using the compost or supercompost you have stored with them, when you either harvest, clear or weed a patch. They are charging 500gp for compost and 1,500gp for supercompost - no refunds!.

    Firemaking

    • Pyre log storage chests have been added near to the funeral pyres in Mort'ton. These allow players to store up to 30,000 of one type of pyre log at a time.
    • Loar, Phrin, Riyl, Asyn and Fiyr remains are now all stackable.
    • Rewards are now placed directly in your inventory when cremating shade remains.

    Invention

    • Newly-created Fishing rod-o-matics now stack in the bank.
    • Upgraded God Wars Dungeon 2, Malevolent, Sirenic & Tectonic armours can now be augmented at an Invention workbench using a non-degraded piece with an augmentor and 36 divine charges. Already degraded armour cannot be augmented. These armour pieces use their own charge, rather than the main charge pack. Once all charge is used and the item is at Lv10 it becomes uncharged and can no longer be used. Gear upgraded in this way cannot use augmentation dissolvers.
    • Item XP and XP until the next item level now appears in an augmented item's tooltip and in the chat window when checked during combat.

    Runecrafting/Runespan

    • Wizard Finix now gives your purchased starter runes in order of level.

    Other

    • Reduced the size of Coeden's click area.
    • Increased the click zone for Tirannwn tripwire traps.
    • Stacks of items worth a billion gold or more can no longer be dropped to the floor.
    • Various XP buffs, such as Refer-a-Friend bonuses, will now correctly stack their boosts.
    • Family crest gauntlets can now be switched to another type with a right-click option. Switching will cost the usual 25k coins.

    Conclusion

While 2016 was an amazing year, there were still issues that players had with the game. Primarily focused around update releases, Invention problems, MTX, PvP, and "Batches". It wasn't a perfect year, but compared to the issues we have now, it definitely feels like a perfect year in retrospect.

To keep the discussion fair, I think it's important to discuss what led up and follow 2016. Going into 2016, 2015 had a drop off in unique updates with the Slayer Mobs and Christmas event both being spread over an entire month each. This was likely due to Invention coming out soon as well as coming off the back of Darkscape going live. That being said 2017 started off strong with Nex AoD.

At the end of the day, repeating 2016 is possible if Jagex management would stop making terrible decisions. They just need to learn how to diversify their update sizes and content.

The Ninja team can still exist without replacing an entire development team in the process. I also can't emphasize this enough, even with how good of a year this was, we received normal holiday events that were amazing. They weren't MTX cash grab clones but miniquests. And speaking of quests, we actually received a normal amount unlike now.

Jagex please look at 2016 as something you should be striving to meet for every year's worth of content. You proved you can do it. So do it again.

[Suggestion] Occasional reminder to make it cheaper/free to track DPS.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 05:43 AM PDT

The cornerstone of PvM and a lot of people's love of RS3 is constant technical improvement. Part of this is gemming (of course not all of it). If i could just privately track DPS the same way gem does without having to sweat it and running to G.E to buy a gem anywhere from 600k to 1m i'd be so happy. Honestly as long as people are not harassing you it is a lot of fun to be able to keep track of DPS just so you can think about what things you can change with your approach.

Today I completed medium clue collection, AMA

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:16 PM PDT

After going for around 1k clues dry for my last item, I today received wolf mask and could end my journey that I started way too long ago. As a bittersweet ending I ended up receiving another wolf mask just 20 chests after when I opened the chests I had left. Here is the collection log, blue checkered shirt will remain as the only item I have only one copy of though I got it around 800 clues.

Grinding out easy clue collection was a lot more fun and didn't feel as bad as medium clues, since medium clues take a lot longer to gather (a lot closer to hard clues, while ham members give around 1 easy clue per minute) and around 2 minutes to complete in comparison to easy clues around 1 minute.

My method for doing clues was good old dagannoths in the lighthouse dungeon, since I have a big dislike for dks dungeon dagannoths. Yetis were too scarce for my afking sessions and pyrefiends were range so they wouldnt pile up as much as dagannoths (while some were range, some were melee). It would probably have been no issue if I had used mage or range instead of melee, but I had only one set of scav 3 at a time and it was already in my zaros anima top (started the process way before Archaeology and spent time to grind 120 before continuing on clue grind, and since had already done over 1k clues with melee continued to do so with dagannoths).

It seems that many others aren't that interested in doing medium clues either, as I got to rank 12 on hiscores while on the grind. Can't blame them, as the grind is much harder on mental than easy clues since it takes a lot of time but unlike hard and elite clues there aren't any super rares that give you a lot of money (most expensive item is ranger boots which are about 1,5m). Next I believe I will fill hard collection excluding the super rares, because I would like to do something else in the next 50 years.

Unpopular opinion in the RuneScape community..

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 08:40 PM PDT

Holy shit rs3 is freaking incredible. I'm coming from osrs as a level 114 (grinding for raids). I was completely burnt out on the game and went to WoW for a while.. decided to play RS3 in ironman mode and holy shit it's so good. Like so good. Just finished the death of chivalry quest and was speechless. I had to log out and tell my wife about it and then play "long road" on YouTube (https://youtu.be/LwLBJCW52xQ). Obviously I don't see the MTX as an ironman, btw, but as a fellow developer, Jagex you guys are freaking killing it. I am thoroughly enjoying the game in this game mode and encourage all my fellow OSRS players to try it, especially in ironman mode. I am about to break 1000 total level within a week (thanks to working from home) and honestly do not feel burnt out. This game freaking rocks.

PS smithing and mining actually makes sense now...

    Who did this

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 01:25 PM PDT

Aussies who have played on non Aussie servers while travelling, what's it like?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 04:33 PM PDT

I've noticed a huge influx of posts joking about the Aussie servers. My ping to them is a constant 5 - 10 but according to the high end pvmers this isn't accurate.

I've always just said the delay in clicking, moving, casting abilities was just the inherit clunky mechanics of runescape, The 600ms tick rate.

But now I'm lead to believe this isn't the case? Do Americans, Europeans feel instant movement and ability casting?

So anyone who has played on Aussie servers while in Australia, and other servers while in that respective country... what is it really like? Is there a noticeable difference?

A suggested port/elite dungeon 1 update; new weapons Tetsu Nagamaki, Death Lotus Daikyu Yumi, and Seasinger Bō and passive additions to port weapons and Elite port armor.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 11:17 AM PDT

Ports are a really great little side activity, after awhile though, you do run out of things to actively seek in ports beyond bones for scrimshaws and spices for supplies..

So i had an idea, three new 2h ports/eastern themed weapons the Tetsu Nagamaki, Death Lotus Daikyu Yumi (just daikyu Yumi for inconvenience once built) and the Seasinger Bō each would have a unique passive or inherent abilitys. And, while we're at it, i was thinking we could make port weapons and armor that much better.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    New Weapons

Tetsu Nagamaki - Nagamaki are eastern blades with a very long hilt but standard blade length. Due to its unique composition the Nagamaki can be both considered a polearm and a greatsword. It would come with the following special and passive

    • Shift stance - special attack requiring 10% adreniline that lasts 5 minuets or until the special attack is used again or the weapon is unequipped. Shift stance changes the weapon from default greatsword to halberd greatly increasing its accuracy by 2 tiers (ie t90 accuracy instead of t88 for elite) but lowering damage by 2 tiers (so t85 as there is no t86 in that same example)
    • Expertise - passive effect while wearing at least 3 regular tetsu armor parts this weapons accuracy and strength are raised to the next tier (ie t87 for standard, t90 for elite) and are raised 2 tiers while wearing full superior or elite tetsu (ie t88 for standard, 92 for elite), full superior and elite means all 5 parts as well.

To unlock the Nagamaki, buy the blueprint from Bonnie in Waiko. It will cost 10k chimes, and then require 50 plate + 1 tetsu Tsbua and 20 golden tortle shells to create. a new tradeable material will be avalbile to make at an invention bench with 50 invention called "bundled shells" which would act as the equivalent of 20 tortle shells available to purchase via the ge or player trade for those unable to gather them.

Death Lotus Daikyu Yumi - for everyones memory sake, it should be shortened to Daikyu Yumi once created/banked. The Daiku Yumi is a fragile yet incredibly powerful longbow created from bamboo. Requiring great dextarity to wield it would be one of very few weapons ig with an agility requirement, in this case, 60 agility and would have the following special and passive

    • Masterful shot - Similar to snipe take 3 seconds to fire an aimed shot that deals 300% weapon damage for 70% adrenaline with a 50 second cooldown, if fired from behind or the target's side deals 500% weapon damage with a 30% damage resistance during the aiming period regardless of position.
    • Superior range - the Yumi has a natrual range of 12 tiles, the single highest range of any weapon in game, at a cost that it degrades 15% faster than normal degradeable weapons.

To unlock the Yumi, simply go to bonnie again, and buy it for 10k chimes like the nagamaki. It will require 50 laquor + 10 bundled bamboo + 10 flax. A new material like the bundled shells will be introduced called "bamboo shipment" available via the GE.

Seasinger Bō - traditionally a martial weapon the Bō has been repurposed as a deadly magical weapon by the sea singers of the east. It unlike any post eoc weapon as an attack requirement of 30 to wield. with the following abilities

    • Storm Call - creates a 2x2 Aoe effect on your target dealing 100-200 points of damage every tick while lowering target defense by 5 levels per tick up to a maximum of 25 levels. this special attack requires 50% adrenaline with a 1:30 cooldown.
    • Strike- owing to its nature as a martial weapon origonally, the Bō will deal an additional melee strike that is calculated off 15% of your magic attack's damage against targets that enter halberd range

To create the Bō, retread your steps to Waiko and bonnie and fork over 10k chimes once more, you may create it for 50 chi, 10 bamboo (Shipments are usable) 5 soapstone and 1 seasinger kaeseki.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Updated old weapons

Ah the classic port weapons, darts, katanas, and wands and orbs. It'd be a shame if we left them to gather dust wouldn't it? i've devised some new passives to help them out.

    Tetsu Katanas -

    • Shifted Strike - only available while wielding one katana, twohand your katana for a single strike that deals 300% weapon damage and sunders enemy defense by 20% for 1 minuet. Costs 100% adrenaline with a 1:30 cooldown
    • Dual mastery - only available while both katana and wakzashi are wielded, this special attack boosts the damage of all dual wield abilities by 10% for 1 minuet.
    • Iron composition - passive blades have a higher chance to crit on all attacks

    Death Lotus Darts -

    • Precision - only available when using mainhand darts alone, deal a single strike that deals 800% of weapon damage at a cost of 5 darts per use with a 5:00 cooldown and costs 100% adrenaline
    • Whirlwind- only available when dual wielding, cyclone darts in a 3x3 area dealing 100% of weapon damage per hit ignoring armor, target damage is capped in pvp at 3000, and in pve at 10,000.
    • Scavenging - targets have a 30% chance to refund all darts used during the fight so long as you retain 25 or more darts combined or in one hand

    Seasinger Kiba and Makigi -

    • Enhancement - only available when using the main hand wand alone, enhancement adds 1 tier of damage and accuracy for every 1000 damage dealt in a 30 second period, finishing with a 300% weapon damage strike based on the tier reached. this effect only applies to the main hand weapon and has a 8:00 cooldown.
    • Flood- only available while dual wielding kiba and makigi, an enhanced form of wild magic, deals a string of 5 strikes dealing between 100%-300% weapon damage, with the last strike healing the player 20% of the damage dealt. This ultimate ability has a 3:00 cooldown and you may not benefit from its healing effect more than once in a 6 minuet period
    • Enchanting strikes - small chance for every strike dealt by seasinger wands/orbs to stun an opponent these stunning strikes do 50% less damage but stun for up to 8 seconds if both mh and offhand are seasinger equipment

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Elite Port Armor

Port armor's passive effect is kinda... meh. It is great armor but it is held back from being usable in some end game scenarios because of its tier and style. Elite port armor would be an upgrade. to begin however the following is needed

    • 99 in the respective creation skill
    • 80 invention
    • 5 fortunate components (for binding)
    • a full set of malevolent, sirenic, or tectonic, with equivalent t90 gloves/boots for the gloves and boots.
    • a new one time unlock scroll for each whole set, available for 30k chimes from bonnie in waiko each.

Once you have the necessary materials, bring them to your ports anvil which will have new recipes to build with. These enhanced port armors will be t90, and offer the following respective passives if 3 pieces are worn with double the chance to active if wearing 5 parts.

    Tetsu -

Master's stance - every time you're attacked you have a chance to initiate an auto attack counter strike that attacks during your opponents attack, dealing 50% of your normal auto attack damage

    Death Lotus-

Assassin's watch - chance for every attack to be a "double strike" mimicking the prior used ability or special to hit a second time with 50% of the original attack's damage. "sustained" abilities like rapid fire or unload have a greater chance of triggering this ability.

    Seasinger -

Eastern wisdom - 5% chance to not use runes when casting a spell or ability, attacks with no rune cost are always critical hits.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And, that's about it. New weapons and updates to some of the more iconic gear to grace rs3.

New Archaeology Rewards: Return of Crumble Undead and healer's staff Restored Rod of Asclepius

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 04:08 PM PDT

This is a 2 Part Suggestion.

    1. Archaeologists dig up from the days of EoC an ancient spell: Crumble Undead. This spell has the old EoC mechanic, but now comes in 3 tiers. As suggested by TTTonster , could also be another restored artifact/scroll (Even multiple tiers and tradeable)

    Level 25 - 1 Chaos Rune + 1 Earth Rune

    Level 50 - 2 Death Runes + 2 Earth Runes

    Level 75 - 3 Blood Runes + 3 Earth Runes

Spell requires completing the Arch Tutorial and can be purchased for a few thousand Chronotes. Spell is F2P accessible but on up to Lvl 50.

    2) Restored Rod of Asclepius as an Everlight Reward.

2 Handed Staff that would be T70 or T75 and come with 3 effects

    - When you use healing spells, items, and abilities, it boosts the healing effect of Calorie Bombs, Ice Asylum, and the Lunar Spells Heal Other and Heal Group. This way, the effect doesn't stack.

    - The range of effects of other types of recovery items and spells are increased (ie: if it was 1x1 it is now 3x3, 3x3 is now 5x5, so Cure Group would have a wider radius)

    - The damage of Crumble Undead is increased (thus Level 75 Crumble Undead would now hit like a Level 80 spell)

Please fix the dbaxe spec buff bar icon

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 04:31 AM PDT

There was a patch note a few weeks ago saying that they fixed the dbaxe buff bar icon, but now it's just completely gone, there's literally nothing on your buff bar about a dbaxe spec after you use it.

It's basically always been broken, it used to half-asked share an icon with zerk, but even that was better than what we have now.

It's such a cool spec that it's really a shame that it's icon doesn't work, it would help a ton if it could have a working icon

    Hello,

Would like to know how can you "wear" your scythe on your shoulder?

1 year later; I'd say now would be a good time to add this title to the game. Thoughts?
